Seeing as no one else has answered .. I've been in the area just a few times .. don't know much about the english leg but ..

once you get to the severn you can either go through gloucester or across the bridge (bikes are free). The main road after gloucester is the A40 which is pretty dull imo, but after Ross on Wye / Monmouth there are some nice country roads if you get off the A40 (like past white castle). A48 might also be an option but I haven't tried it properly yet. There are nice little hill village roads around the forest of Dean if you like that kind of thing (my relatives live there and I was on a little supermoto).

Or across the severn you can go up the Wye valley from chepstow to monmouth which is really nice, I was there a few days ago. If I were doing it I'd be tempted to go the severn bridge route.

Also depends what kind of riding you like of course. Smile

I went there a couple of years ago in May, really enjoyed it. Went to Pembroke first for a couple of nights, then went north-east and camped just outside Whitney-on-Wye for a couple of nights.

On the first night in the pub next to the camp site (The Boat Inn) I made up a route on my satnav that would take me all across the beacons, along the twistiest, tiniest lanes in the hope of seeing the scenery.
Turned out to be brilliant. Some of the little lanes looked like they were people's drives, or went into farms, and I got a few funny looks, but I loved it.
I also went up to Newtown as I had been told the road south to LLandidrod Wells was worth a ride. It was!

The route I took back was also fairly scenic (to South London) - went to Hereford, then across to Chipping Norton, then down between the M40 and M4 (Whitney, Abingdon, Henley). Was more interesting than motorway.

How long have you got? A470 it to Builth then head to the Elan Valley and across to Aberystwyth. That will give you scenery and a chance to throw the bike through some twisties or follow the A470 from North to South.

There are loads of great roads in Mid Wales. Stick to week days if you can as weekends see the roads filled up with knobbers towing horses etc.

Try not opening the throttle, chill out and enjoy the views.
Stop and enjoy the silence.
