So in 2014 the Suzuki factory team will return to Moto GP, they are currently testing a bike and Espargaro is scheduled to test it later in the year.

What's more this weeks MCN is linking Crutchlow with a move to the Factory outfit next year after his frustrations with Yamaha.

Recipe for success or disaster? How good can the factory suzuki be?

It depends on how much effort/money they put into it. Suzuki sportbikes are certainly suffering by not having the R&D from MotoGP being filtered down to them.

If he doesn't get the works Yam he deserves he will go, what's he got to lose?

I'd rather him get on a full works Suzuki than try for the Ducati again, look at Dovi's performance since went there from the Tech 3 Yamaha. Sure he might be getting paid a bucket load more but he's gone from constantly being in front of Cal in the top 5-6 to now struggling to stay in the top 10 and battling with the satellite/CRT bikes.

I'm hoping Suzuki chuck some serious wedge at it and get Cal a decent bike for 2014.

The reason this rumour has started is because it looks like Pol Esparagaro will be going to Tech 3 on a works Yamaha. Poncheral isn't too happy about this, and where else is there for Cal to go?

Also bear in mind MCN is generally referred to as More Crap than News.

Silly season has already begun.

I still think it was utter madness that Smith got a MotoGP ride when he did absolutely nothing in 125 and Moto2.

I think Smith may suprise a few people next year. He's very methodical, mature and doesn't rush into things. Doesn't make for the most exciting viewing but he's doing ok so far. There were/are more deserving people (Pol/Redding - FFS Gino Rea lost his Moto2 ride and he stood on the podium last year!) but he'll come ok I reckon.

Mind you I thought the same about Bradl, but he hasn't exactly set the world on fire. During the press conference about sexuality and homosexuality in particular in the motogp paddock, all the riders were speaking, saying how there's no problem if another was a raging homo... Bradl said he'd give it a try if it made him faster! Laughing

They would shoot themselves in the foot if they were to get rid of Cal. I think it all depends on how Rossi gets on this year. If it's lackluster then i reckon he'll walk away from the sport and take up GT racing/Rallying etc. That'll leave a space for Crutchlow on the factory Yam. If there's anyone in the Motogp paddock that deserves a factory ride, it's Cal. This would in turn make space for Espargaro at Tech3 alongside Smith who, early days yet, will get quicker and quicker but needs to get some decent finishes in quickly otherwise he may just lose his seat.

Its been speculated about on motomatters.com too - far more sense spoken in a single paragraph on there than in a whole issue of MCN.

I think the Suzuki could be a good bet really - Bautista was finishing in the same places on the old GSVR as he is on a factory-ish Honda with Showa suspension for which they have no data. Information has already come out about it being a small, Yamaha-esque package - see here.

Of the options available to Cal, which are limited in number as Yamaha can force Tech 3 to take Espargaro, it seems better than a Ducati to me. Having said that, Spies has been linked with Suzuki's GP comeback as he has a lot of history with them in AMA, and IIRC he has a one year deal with Pramac.

Maybe itl be Spies and Crutchlow as a 2 man team, if I had to choose between the 2 its a no brainer looking at how spies is riding atm.

They may be following the Ducati model there - having a septic rider is vitally important for sales, regardless of their actual results, and [Rogerborg mode] we all know Suzuki aren't in the best financial shape at the moment [/borg] so that could be important.

As the Cycleworld article I linked to above says, having some direct lineage from the GP bike to the next GSXR could be what they need to start shifting bikes again.

I trust Paul Denning and Crescent will be running the team again, in which case I could see it just being a single rider team.

Dorna have stipulated that they have to take the place of, or team up with an existing team on the grid. All that may go out the window when you or I could go out and buy a Honda production racer with a big enough Euromillions win next year, but its supposedly to stop Suzuki pissing off after a season and to get them to commit fully (along with a watertight contract and penalties for leaving).

Crescent and PBM team up? One factory, one CRT?

Or do a Gresini and run one CRT and one factory bike.
