This is my first bike so I dont have any pit stand experience...

I bought a rear and its great so I got a front also thats apparently universal however I cant see a way that it will lift the front securely at all

What am i doing wrong?

standard sv650 forks

this kinda stand

however my forks just slide through the 2 prongs and doesnt lift the front wheel high enough?

or it feels very delicate on the stand as if its going to jump off very easy if done the way the vid shows

I've never had a good experience with the "universal" front stands.

You're better off getting yourself a stand with bobbins, a headstock stand or an ABBA stand.

With a stable surface and an extra pair of hands the simple front stand should be okay

But the ABBA system is worth its weight in gold as they are simple to use and you can use it on more than one bike,so if you change your bike you just utilise a differant adapter.

^^^^ This ^^^ This ^^^ And This ^^^

I don't know WTF I've been playing at with any of those fecking wobbly-arsed bastart Paddock Stands. (Pillock stand more like)

The Abba stand is a hefty and rugged bastart Lifts the bike securely with one hand.

edit: And takes up less space than a pillock stand does.

Universal front paddock stands are either good or bad in my experience.

For example my Micron one works like a dream, its sturdy, stable and just 'works' well. On the other hand I occasionally use a Bike-It front paddock stand and that is just poor all round. Apart from being a bit flimsy it just doesn't line up very well or 'work' very well, and this is even after modifying it at work to make the pins actually line up with each other.

My advice - don't pay mega amounts of money when a mid-range item will do, but also don't buy the cheapest crap that's out there either!
