Now this CBR125 I am selling for the GF. She dropped it a bit ago and broke the top fairing and flasher stems. We didn't get new bits because it was likley to be dropped again.

I was just thinking, she has given up on the idea of biking and the bike is insured comprehensivley. Might be worth making a claim for the damage? (admittedly the dates when it happened may require a 'slip of the pen' but it was a genuine accident and covered under the insurance.)

What I was wondering is if she makes a claim on her motorbike insurance, would it affect her car insurance premiums?

I shouldn't have thought so, if they did it would be completely unfair, seeing as they don't carry NCB from cars to bikes or Vice Versa. Wink

Im not certain on this but I remember a post where some guy was complaining his bike insurance had went up because his wife crashed the car on his policy.

I would be careful not to shoot oneself in the foot over this matter!!

I would expect so as when you're taking out a bike policy they take into account any claims you have from a car policy.

I would definitely advise against claiming. Car insurers will ask you about any accidents regardless of bike or car. And they will continue to do so for the next 3 to 5 years depending on insurer.
Add up the extra premium and it is likely to come to more than the repair job, especially if you can do with 2nd hand bits from ebay and such.
The situation will get even worse if she also gets some speeding points as well in that time.

I wasn't sure about this, so I emailed a mate in one of our sales teams. None of the brands under our company require details of any claims made on a motorcycle policy for car insurance, though we (obviously) would need details of any convictions acquired on one. However he's not sure whether this is standard practice, or whether other car insurance companies would want to know about claims on a motorcycle policy.

The only company that I called that wouldn't take into account bike accidents was Tescos, they also /do/ take into account bike no claims.

CIA don't carry Car no claims onto Bike, so I assume it dosn't work the other way either...

This was the case when dad bought a bike a few years ago, at least.
