I love the NW200. Craziest set of races I've ever seen. People braking from 200mph, six abreast into corners, and bouncing the bikes off the kerbs. Bloody mental. I have to see it live someday.

Can't decide which is more mental, this or the TT, good to watch though.

Incidentally, when I was watching earlier, most of the bikes seemed to be fitted with some sort of feeble looking bark buster, but only on the throttle side; is there some significance to this, or is it a camera mount?

If it's the same as what I think you're referring too, it's to stop the front lever slamming on the anchors if 2 bikes clip each other

I did wonder if it might be that, presumably this has happened enough times in the past for it to be thought necessary at this particular race.

Not seen it at the NW200 but have seen it in circuit racing. I'm guessing it's just an extra safety feature thats been put into use due to the higher risks to the rider if it does happen

I suppose it makes sense, given they're all racing together and the close proximity of very solid objects, if it all goes the way of the pear.

The TT is time trial so meeting bikes on the way round in clusters is a very rare thing. You'll pass the odd single bike if you are fast enough. The NW is grouped racing with around 10 -15 bikes in each grouping. Sometimes they have 2 packs which makes for some interesting racing.

The NW used to be more mental but they added 2 chicanes on the Portrush straight slowing that area down a little and, according to some racers, ruined the race for them. It used to be a straight run at full speed from the Magic Roundabout into Metropole.

I used to camp in a private field just beside station corner as the bikes started getting up to speed on the back straight and have speed gun pictures from years ago of bikes whizzing past at 160mph.

See! (see how long ago that was... Petrol 95p)

Must admit though. Each year I went it was always fantastic. The only year I couldnt go was the year before I left Belfast and it was rained off anyways.

It might well be streamed live from the website but I know they show highlight shows on BBCNI if you have sky TV you can probably get it.

I don't have sky here. I used to watch it in Ireland on bbc but they don't show it here I think. Had to search the internet last year to watch highlights.

Ill try watch on the website in the morning anyway. Thanks PF.

I just found Bikes! on bbc iplayer.

Its highlights of the 1st round of the Irish road races in Cookstown, a must watch for this evening and a great prelude to the NW.
Its in the Northern Ireland sport section.
