Hi All,

I am thinking of getting a walki talkie or 2 way radio to monitor any sounds from the basement where my bike is parked

this way if anyone starts to hammer the chain or do naughty staff then i an hear the noise and jump down straight away

my question is would something from argos which is £29 be good enogh ? i also know that you need to push the talk button to transmit or speak, is there a way of doing this automatically so no need to push the talk button as there is no one there overnight to do this

i am then gonna charge the radio in the morning for the next night

is this a good idea ? my main question is really about the ability to transmit voice without pushing the button as with baby monitors

thanks

Just get an alarm if you feel that strongly about it.

Personally I couldn't be arsed charging up a walkie talkie every morning.

It also may not wake you up....

the thing is the alarm is around 200 for a decent one or 30 from ebay for cheap one but don't know if it will work at all.

i have two bikes thus baby monitor maybe better, so gues walkie talkie or 2 way radio can't do the job of baby monitor ?

thanks

I guess you could...tape the transmit button...or something...?

seriously...? Confused

Forget about the batteries lasting all night on permanent transmit though.

the baby monitor has only got a range of 50m indoor or 300m outdoor.

my basement parking to my flat is more than 50 meters so may have to just try it and it does have think walls.

alarm, i don't know maybe, is the cheap 20,30 ones any good ?

I found the Hawk alarms quite good, don't get lower than the X-50 though, and the fobs are quite fragile, broke 2 by sitting on them.

Jesus christ, its only an SV.

Cyclone V2 alarm, almax chain and a cover. You shouldn't worry this much about a bike, if you do, move to a nicer area Laughing

Think I paid about £40.00, just quick splice into the indicators and an ignition live wire and job jobbed.

More involved if you want immobilizer working.

FWIW the Cyclone V2 motorbike alarm site also has the Advanced V3 alarm (clicky link).
This has a 3 mile (open space) pager.
So I guess that may get through the walls from your basement.
ATM £70 of your hard earned beer tokens.

That said I have not bought and/or tried so if you get one please post a review Thumbs Up

Some people might suggest that of you really wanted to prevent bike theft from your garage, you could purchase a quantity of smoke grenades and/or flashbangs such as those used in airsoft/paintball tourneys.

And if one or two of these devices were to somehow become attached to the rear wheel of your bike by means of magician's wire, and placed in a subtle location where an attempt to move your bike would cause them to activate, filling your garage with smoke and setting off the smoke alarm that happens to be fitted to your ceiling, that could be quite a deterrent.

Theoretically, of course.

Or use one of these Smile

But seriously - I've just gone through all this options after having a bike nicked out of my back garden - can seriously vouch for the webcam as the fuckers came back a month later and I've caught them this time.

I've also bought a telescopic bollard to put in the alley leading to the garden too but for that to work it would depend on the layout of your basement etc.

I have a cyclone v2 alarm on my er6.

Fitted it myself, even the immobiliser bit and it was easy enough to do.

The alarm itself is sensitive when knocked and very loud. But by the time they get round to knocking your bike there is a chance that they have already got your chain off and caused damage to your ignition.

But for £30 it is well worth it as it will ward off any half arsed thieves.

Personally think alarmed disc locks are better value than alarms, at least when the batteries die it's still a lock and obviously quite a lot easier to fit Razz
