First ride on a litre bike?

What was your first time on a litre bike like? How different did it feel?

The reason I ask is I may be switching to a litre twin and am slightly bricking it (The smaller engined version costs more strangely enough)

100 odd hp to 155hp and 47ftlb to 85ftlb

Haven't had a go on a "proper" litre bike.

CBF1000, which was different to my CBR600, the torque was good, shocked me at first when I twisted the throttle open.

No big issues, just more power over more rev range, treat it with respect and it'll be easier to ride than a smaller capacity machine. Nothing to be worried about if you have some biking experience.

I jumped on my dad's r1 from an 11bhp YBR125, it's really not as bad as you think, but you will be going silly speeds before you know it

Jumped from a Thundercat onto a tl1000r. The extra grunt was noticeable but the difference was by no means mind blowing.

I had a little play with an RSV the other day, on the 750, he didn't really have anything on me up to 120, I was right on his back wheel. (This was in traffic so no chance for higher speeds really). Maybe he wasn't using full power.

When I first sat on my KTM SuperDuke, I was pretty scared. Mainly because of all those reiews I read online about how sensitive the throttle is and how it's meant to be only for experienced riders.

And to be honest it's one of the easiest bikes I've ridden so far. Yeah, if you give it a handful mid corner it won't be nice, but hey, you have got to be sensible.

My previous 640 LC was probably was much more sensitive in certain scenarios, but of course the top speed is uncomparable. (even if it's a bike that's far from 155hp) Thank god for the lack of fairings so I'm constantly reminded of how fast I'm going.

So my first time on a litre bike was pretty great, much more enjoyable and relaxed than what i expected.

You'll find your face hurts more from that huge grin you have! Seriously, take it easy. You don't need to use all the power straight away. You'll probably find you're more than happy changing up at 6-7,000rpm, and still going at a hell of a pace.

First litre bike I rode was a 1348cc harley.

Considerably slower than the 660 single supermoto I was riding about at the time.

I swapped back from my Old Hyo gt125r with its massive 11 bhp to my GSR 600 with 90bhp after the snow had melted in feb. Dry roads, just a bit cold. Set off from the lights and gave it too much throttle and the back end went, put my leg down. And ended up with three torn ligaments in my knee and a broken fibula.
That was Feb 23rd. I finally got back on the bike last week.

Twins don't really count .

First go on a tuned zx9 up from a zx6 of similar year was a bit 'meh'.

If you make full use of what's available to you on a 600, a litre bike won't seem like much more - just the same for a bit longer and easier if you're not trying.

If you don't make full use of a smaller bike, it may well seem amazing - as you're then getting equivalent to what you would get if you rode the smaller bike properly .

The CBF1000 was only the second bike I ever rode (on a demo day) after passing my DAS. I was a bit worried at the time because of it being unknown territory, but needn't have worried at all.

More recently rode a Kwak Z1000, and a ZX10R which really did demonstrate the power that was possible...

I just realised the most powerful bike i've ever ridden is a 43hp 500cc twin.

Not even ever borrowed a more powerful bike from a mate for a 'test.'

The first 'litre' bike I rode was Korn's 2001 R1. Didn't feel that fast, but I was riding a Triumph Daytona 955i at the time. Even that didn't feel super quick.

The biggest shock I had from a step in power was strangely enough from my NS125R to my VFR400 NC21. It felt like a total rocket in comparison.

The closest I've come since is actually my Street Triple. I hadn't ridden for six months after crashing my Buell and was used to a bike that redlined at 7200rpm. When I opened the throttle on the Street Triple, it being a high revving lightweight naked bike I thought "Fuuuuuu...."

But you soon get used to it again, it seems. Even Bendy's and G's GSXR1000's didn't seem to be that fast (because they had fairings I guess). It's only when you look down at the speedo and realise you're doing 125mph that you understand what is going on!

Gone from a 45bhp single to a 125bhp in-line 4. It is mental. Like Walloper says you actually have to hold on, I've only had the throttle to the stops once!

But in general riding it is much more 'easy' and it handles superbly

biggest bike i've ridden is my hornet i'm afraid, would like to have a go on a litre bike at some point but I know I don't even get anywhere near the limits on a 600 so not really any point of me buying one.

The only Litre bike i have had a go on was a ZRX1100, going from my hornet to having a ride on that wasn't too strange.

It just felt smoother and that it could manage the speed alot easier, also it is pretty easy to go faster than you think you are going.

I thought the first ride on a litre bike would be insane. It wasn't, but you do notice the increase in power and smoothness/lack of revs.

This is on an IL4 though.. Picked up G's GSXR1000 after riding my Daytona 600 over which I sat on the motorway at 80-90ish.

The journey home on the GSXR it felt like I was at 80-90ish but I glanced down and saw 150. Needless to say it was effortless.
