PostPosted: 05:11 - 15 May 2013    Post subject: Curious about a E-bike Reply with quote

I am kinda looking into a E-bike because when biking I can bike for a while but then my legs may give out or i may collapse because my heart hurts.

So i was looking into a E-bike or something but heres some questions

1: do i need a lience to ride 1 in my state (MN)
2: Whats a good 1 that can go to a nice speed to fast speed
3: are they expensive
4: is it possiable to turn my current bike (semi new still) into a ebike or no?
5: Any tips i should know about them?
6: Can i still ride a E-bike as a bike untill my legs give out?

I looked at only 4 E-bikes so far and they were 2000 dollars+ so im asking for all bikes n stuff.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

you may be better asking on a forum such as www.cyclechat.co.uk which is a dedicated cycling forum.

as someone has already mentioned, this is a motorcycle forum but you're welcome to stick around - just don't feed Jive Bunny after midnight or let him near water Very Happy

I feel a little duty bound to warn you that you have wandered into a potentially quite...unfamiliar...part of the internet. For a Minnesotan, I mean. Laughing

Are you talking about Electric Bikes then you need to go to a cycling forum for people to lazy to pedal their bicycle! Smile

Or do you mean Electric Motorcycles like promoted by this company in the below link?

You would think the "C" tachometer in the BCF logo would give it away that this is not a ghey cycling forum.

(although there is a cycling sub-forum)

Your heart can't hurt, it has no pain nerves. You probably have a stitch due to anerobic effort.

It's called cardiovascular exercise and it's the main reason why you shouldn't buy an electric bike but instead persevere with a pedal cycle. ESPECIALLY because you're getting chest and muscle pain when you're doing it. Your body is telling you you're unfit and avoiding exercise will not do anything for this.

Unless you have a diagnosed medical condition for which you have been specifically advised to restrict your exercise, keep at it, it'll do you good.

You should stop short of total exhaustion, most people either slow down or stop for a bit when they reach the point of being in pain. You should aim to pedal at a speed where you stay aerobic most of the time (so no muscle burning pain and breathlessness). This will usually involve changiung into a lower gear and spinning more.

Keep going, it won't get any easier but you'll get faster.

You can make your pedal cycling easier by making sure you have appropriate road tyres fitted, well pumped up and a well maintained drivetrain.

Speak to your healthcare professional but there aren't many cardiovascular or respiratory conditions that wouldn't be helped considerably by your continuing with the kind of exercise cycling provides. Just take it a bit easier.

I re-iterate. There are no pain nerves in your heart, you may be experienceing chest pains but they aren't in your heart.
