Does anyone have/had this bike? I'm kind of thinking of it and right now, there's one nice and clean near by my house for less than 1k pounds.
Does it have the YPVS or anything like that and how's the reliability.
The seller says he polished/brushed the cylinders, got new piston rings and seals, done the carbs and some other stuff last year.
So, what do you think?
He asks 1000 pouds right now, but he's gonna drop a bit, every one does ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

If those pictures are the actual bike. Buy it right now.
If you took that back to the UK and put it on ebay, you'd double your money immediately.
For what it's worth, they ought to go maybe 20k between top end rebuilds. Normal servicing between then. I'd always carry a spare set of plugs and a plug spanner though.
They are fucking ace. This is not a CZ, these things are flying machines. When you hit the powerband it will kick the front wheel in the air and take off. Should be good for about 110mph.
Do be aware though, they drink fuel at an alarming rate. Expect in the region of 25-30mpg (9 to 10.5km per litre). Less if you thrash it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

+2 if that's the actual bike then it needs to be your bike asap!
Easy worth twice the price and if you stripped it for parts, you'd make £££'s on some of the bits IMO.
Buy it, look after it and enjoy it! Being a 2stroke then I'd give it the usual once over, new plugs, gearbox oil, sync the carbs and oil pump etc. Maybe do a compression test and give the exhausts a good de-carbonise, but be careful not to damage OE LC pipes, they are the holy grail on any RDLC resto project.
Being a Yamaha, you should also probably check the insides of the tank, and if there's any brown/rusty marks, get the tank off, and clean it out properly before applying a decent tank lining compound. Id also probably fit in-line fuel filter's just to stop any crap getting into the carb bowls etc.
For 3k miles a year, you just want to keep it well serviced, and run it on top quality fully synth oil. Warm it up gently and then give it a good thrash when warm, and you will love the noise, performance, and smell of the thing.
Can't think of many 80's 250's that could be more awesome than a really tidy sorted LC tbh!
If it were me, id probably consider taking the OEM pipes off if they are tidy and undamaged, and spunk some cash on a set of stainless steel spannies, to preserve the original pipes and to release more of the 2stroke song! |

Maybe possibly my one was a good one.
My one would rev right up to the red line and beyond.
I know for a fact that I had more than an indicated 95 out of mine.
According to the lads riding with me at the time 105/106 +.
Thing was I was 5-6 stone lighter than I am now ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now!

Wow, lot's of input, alright, where to even start?
First of all, the MPG, I know riding's not about fuel consumption, but this would be quite devastating for my ''student's'' wallet. Right now the NC27 I've got can get about 40mpg (5.5L/100km) and I can ride only like three times a month, well I always go flat out, and burn the full tank of fuel before I stop (1liter of 100 octane clean fuel = 1.26GBP and it's quite cheap right now, Natural 95 is about 1.15GBP per liter)
If I had 1000 pounds right now, I'd take the RD as a second bike, but I'm gonna have to sell my NC27 first, in order to get some cash.
If anyone interested, here's the original link: https://www.motorkari.cz/motobazar/motorky/yamaha/yamaha-rd-250/yamaha-rd-250-510419.html
Price: 30 000 CZK (quick action = discount)
Type: Sale
Town: Branky, Zlin region, CZE
Telephone:775043190
Manufactured: 1985
ODO: 47000 Km
Service book/journal: No
Power:24 kW
displacement: 250 cm3
Technical certificate: Yes
Condition: Not crashed
MOT: 7.5.2014
When I'm gonna sell the NC27, I'm gonna have a look at it, but from what I've read today, your replies, I don't think this is a bike for me. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Well the problem is, there's no one in CZE who would ever pay that much for a 28yrs old two stroke and I really can't have a bike with that terrible MPG ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

Wait a minute, what's that thing I do instead of full time job, since I'm only 22, hm hm hm, yes I study at the Law faculty
Right now, 100km/60miles on that RD would be around 11.50GBP for fuel and the bike also needs oil, which I've no idea of what that costs ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ
