It's just a bog-standard garage door - the kind that lifts up. Single not double. Before I start ringing around, has anyone got any idea how much I might have to shell out for a new lock? Door is from the late '80s. I'm assuming that the barrel can be swapped out with relative ease - and of course on the back of that I'm thinking I might be being optimistic here.

Smile

Was going to say get a drill but Im guessing that drill is in the garage too Crying or Very sad

Standard prices seem to be £40-£90, possibly per hour and prices vary depending on the time of day, night costing more.

Can you not get something through the gap at the top and catch the cable? I broke into my old house that way using a car jack handle (it was a decent gap!)

A whole new handle and lock was only about £20 when I decided that actually having a key might be useful.

THE PUSH THE DRAW LATCH with a metal object as had been suggested worked for me a few times after locking myself out of the I house. I couldn't get through the garage into the house but I could get in out of the rain and tinker about until the mrs got home .

you may find when you get it open that the lock has the key number on it, so try Bendy's suggestion first.

but make sure you have some ID with you when the Old Bill turn up after someone rings them saying some nefarious types are trying to break into a garage... Mr. Green

Just bump it. Garage doors are easy to get in to.

Run towards the door and jump in to it, towards the corners.

That's why you need throw bolts.

Thanks all. Luckily though the door's not locked. I just need to get a new one cos I lost the keys years ago. Wink Was just wondering how much it might cost. £20? £50?
