Got a little bit of wodge and might blow it on recovering a seat - this kind of size, style and shape:

I'm wondering if leather might be good? I always love it on the odd occasion when I get in a car w/ hide upholstery. A mate's early mid '90s Range Rover has that vibe of luxury snobbishness every time I drive it. Could it work for bike seats too?

I appreciate it doesn't weather as well as vinyl type coverings - but in mitigation I won't be subjecting it to rain much. Just fair-weather commutes/errands and pleasure stuff.

Should I go with leather if I can afford it?

Why not, your arse wont sweat as much Thumbs Up as long as your aware water will seep in if you get caught in the rain.

You referring to the seat or your back eye?

Thus far I've been fortunate enough to escape the discomfiture of weeping sphincter disorder. Thumbs Up

I had a GSX250 with a leather covered seat. It was so uncomfortable I can't begin to describe it. A car seat is like an armchair and a completely different ball game.

There is another material which is like suede but is waterproof which looks pretty cool. I forgot what it's called though Laughing

Leather.. ? like in soggy wet leathers after a ride in the rain ? dries out. cracks wet/dry/wet/dry Unless you have leather specially treated like horse saddles, treat it regularly with coachaline/ or other preserver and take it off the bike after every ride/ clean it/ treat it and store it.. Your leather saddle is going to look like a dead cow in a field within weeks .

In climates where the weather remains fairly dry all year south africa, australia some parts of America it would work but in and out of/damp/cold/frosty/soaking wet/ warm and sunny (joke) weather it would, probably,in my opinion, be a disaster.

Ferraris have just used for their upholstery in cars with no roof, the same material they use for geriatric underbedding that have to repel urine sweat spilled drinks and poo.

Geriatric underbedding it is then!

Or, manmade vinyly type crap at the very least.

Well there's Alcantara, a synthetic suede-type material, but this is not supposed to be waterproof. Apparently Ducati use a similar substance on their optional seats somewhere that is waterproof. I think something similar is used in the BAC Mono car (and potentially cars like the KTM X-Bow, Ariel Atom etc?).

Don't use that stuff it's shite....

There is better stuff you can get but I can't remember what it is called either. Embarassed

I wouldn't use leather as it will get shitty looking after a while and you canny predict weather in UK.

Unless you pay for some High Teck leather that has been treated specifically to stand in the rain. But it would be £££.

There are loads of alternatives to leather which provide a decent practical cover with the cosmetic appeal you seek. Very Happy

I assume that is the same stuff as on my KTM seat. synthetic suede. Brilliant stuff. OK it does get wet but dries very quick. But it soaks into material more than into your trousers. Its not slippery either.

Underneath is gell. I can stay on that seat for a 12 hr day no problem
