Hi all,

Back in the 80's my beloved father was a Barry Sheene wannabe on his suzuki GT250 X7, first 100mph 250 yada yada yada.

Now ive seen 28bhp quoted for these bikes and was wondering if.....

Say an Aprillia Rs125 and a Suzuki X7 were to do a straight line race say 1 mile? who do you think would win

similary over a quater mile etc and what about around a track

as you may have guessed my father thinks the X7 would obliterate the rs125 in all situations apart from twisties

what do you guys think?

id say the aprillia but wouldnt put money on it

come on somebody must have some exprience with these bikes,

ive ridden an rs125, but not the X7

just incase you didnt know,

bhp figures ive seen quoted are

x7 = 28bhp rs125 = 33bhp

dont know about weight but i wouldnt think there was much in it?

None of the magazines ever got more than a true 93-97mph from an X7, despite the manufacturers claims. I'll try to find a test with some performance figures for 1/4mile etc.
The RS would probably just exceed 100mph genuine in perfect/favourable conditions. The Handling and braking would be so much better that on the average road, you would easily pull away from the X7.

Hi

Trying to find a decent condition X7 would be very difficult these days.

Suspect from a standing start the X7 would win. Top speed the RS might be a touch better at, but that would depend greatly on the riders skill at tucking in.

Round bends and on the brakes the RS would be far better, but the X7 would be far easier to get to accelerate rapidly out of bends as it would have far more low down power.

Maybe no power valve, but also in a considerably lower state of tune.

Mind you, if it was wet hitting the power band coming out of a bend could provide an interesting view of your surroundings Laughing

the X7 was something else
and what a sound with a decent set of "spannies"

X7's are still used for racing, tanks rot bad though

maybe something for a magazine to check out

couldn't hazzard a bbet as to who would win

What about weight? an RS is light but there is absolutley F-all to an X7, to the extent where you are not allowed one on a restricted full licence due to the power: weight ratio.

I have also never seen a standard X7, they were all tuned to piston melting peakyness. First thing that anyone did was drill out the airbox, fit a set of allspeeds/microns, lap-in the cylinder head to bump up the squish, polish the piston and cylinder head, file out the ports then drill holes in everything to make it lighter still.

Anyway, everyone who was anyone had an RD250 with the 350 barells on it and you can tell your Dad I said so! Razz
