£700 inc royal mail special delivery

It's not 'properly' for sale yet as I've got to dig out the box and find the bits it comes with like the roll of tools and support stand.

It's a very nice piece of kit, powerful enough that having two of them crossfired was unnecessary, one on its own works sufficiently well.

I hadn't even checked the prices of current AMD cards as I switched to 2 x Gigabyte GTX680 4GB cards at the beginning of the year.

Was checking for a mate looking for a card but he won't want to spend that ha.

Hey yeah thanks for the advice.
@Chrisred - that might be an option.

Basically I am not too knowledgeable when it comes to gpu's etc. And what will suit me best. This PC is my first proper build and it ran fine on the games I was using. (Bioshock, Dishonoured). but prob think I would needed to have upgraded at some point.

Can I still get away with that 640 mb 8800gts?

p.s.
How and why would people pay £600 for a GPU - why is that needed Shocked

Scan are doing 650ti refurbs for £85 right now, it's a bit faster than an 8800 and has more RAM/supports latest DirectX.

If I was going to pick a card to perform well taking into consideration your locked processor, I'd suggest an AMD 7950 or an Nvidia GTX 660ti.

Both of which are over £200, which I doubt you will want to spend, but both will last you as long gaming wise as the rest of your system, and will give you a noticable jump in performance right now.

If you keep looking on eBay, GTX 580s will appear periodically for around the £150 mark, they are pretty evenly matched with a 660ti and cheaper, only problem would be no warranty.

7850 2gb editions are a smidge over £100 and perfectly capable cards. Keep AA off and you'll run most stuff close to max settings.

That'd be your perfect one Thumbs Up

There's no need to have extremly powerful card, I mean, if you can play games with minimal fps at least 30 on maximum settings, then there's no need to play the same game in the same quality at 100fps.

PLUS there's fast progress in development of technlogies, so if you buy overpriced high end graphics card today, it might never use its potential, because the technology can change pretty fast. I've seen that and there's always one who's gonna tell you, that you've got to get the best Thumbs Down

What I mean, I built my PC about 3-4 yrs ago, Intel Q6600, HD4850, 4gb DDR2, all that for 500pounds and I played everything in high quallity since recently when I bought HD6790 and I still can play all games I want Thumbs Up

By the way, I gave that HD4850 to my brother, who's got Phenom II at 3.4GHz with DDR3 ram, and the card still handles all modern games (except those that need more than 512mb on the card).

There's always going to be a market for people who want high end cards but it's nowhere near the size of the the budget to mid range market.

That's the GPU manufacturers biggest sales areas, most people will put a mid range card in their system and a lot will just go for the bare minimum.

I see it as more of a hobby as well. Just FYI as well, playing a game maxed out @ 100+ FPS on a monitor capable of displaying said FPS looks truly amazing, a big difference from what a mid range range card could do.

To be honest I would rather put that kind of money towards a bike, a holiday or a bunch of games!)

My whole build (inc. monitor!) was under £350

I will have a think about it over the next week or so - i'm not in that much of a rush., but if its a case of 30 quid extra or so I might as well wait till I have the dosh and know what I want.

Thanks for the advice. may go for the 7850 or the 650ti like people have said. Will keep an eye out on ebay. Sorry Chrisred - time to upgrade while I have the chance.

Any advantages nvidia vs radeon?

I generally prefer to lean towards nVidia but at the budget end they don't really have that much to compete with AMD, the 650ti is just a bit meh for the price asked imo.

Agreed, AMD seem to dominate the budget end of the market with loads of really cheap but better spec cards than Nvidia.
