This decided to come out the engine of my mates Bandit 6 with a gsxr750 lump fitted.

Was doing about 80 in the outside lane when engine locked solid then a massive bit of the casting blew out and this was left dangling out !

It's nothing to serious then. Smile

Has the engine recently been tamperfered with?

This is either due to slack Big End Cap nuts, knackered big end bearings or the engine ran away with it's self and nature took it's course.

What gear was he in? (Frank Thomas Textiles Rolling Eyes )

Engine was fitted into that frame about 400 miles ago, used the 600 sump and oil cooler and i think that might not of given it enough capacity. these engines are meant to have 4.5L where as only 3.4l look it up to the top of the sight glass with the 600 sump on.

I think that may of been the main factor. But then research had shown it is a common thing to do that swap when dropping the gixxer 7fiddy in a 6 frame.

He was in 4th i think acclerating hard when it happened!

With the smaller capacity sump it's a possibility that at high revs most of the oil was up in the air and on its way back to the sump leaving little left for adequate lubrication purposes.

What about an 'unmodified' one? Would you buy one of these?

Well, there's your problem. That big hole in the side of the engine casing has let all the oil out.
