Hi guys,
I recently bought new sprockets and a chain for my bike. I went for a standard (45) rear sprocket, and a 13 for the front. As far as I know CG's are supposed to be 45 rear, 14 front. I went for a slightly smaller sprocket size on the front to give the bike a little kick in terms of acceleration. This worked and it feels much more punchy, but what I want to know is... is this a bad idea? The gears feel very short and the engine revs quite hard at 40+ MPH. Should I change it back to normal? Will I damage my bike because of high revs / gearbox / anything else by having a smaller front sprocket?
Thanks! Very Happy

It wont cause any damage in itself, gearing is what it is, you put it in a lower gear to give more torque, and a higher one allows higher speed at lower revs. In general you select the gear most suitable for the current hill/speed etc Putting a smaller front sprocket on just shifts the whole range down a little towards more torque, higher revs.

If you find your reving the crap out of it all the time now because its geared too short, then change it back, but its no different to having a standard sprocket and reving the crap out of it, it will just be easier to do with a smaller front sprocket thats all.
