i have just (last few hours) been told that my step dad maybe buying me a 2nd hand bike It's a Yamaha XJR 400 '97 (in white, original colours). perfect condition just needs a clean and a oil change (it's my mates bike, hasn't been on a trip for about 2 months) it's gunna cost £1300
so i will be mobile again
is there anyway i could get this bike to go faster, as the fastest my mate got it to go was about 85? i know it hasn't got an original exhaust, but maybe getting a new can? would that help...
thanks
This is a sample, not the actual bike ____________________ FS1E -> SR125 -> CB400N -> CB650 -> FZR600 Genises -> VFR400 NC21 -> CBR900RR Fireblade -> Renault Clio 1.4 |

For around that price you could get a 400 like mine. Maybe not as new a bike as this XJR, but still. It would be faster and handle better.

But then again I'd be assuming you like sport bikes over a road bikes.
It's up to you mate.
I did get the impression you thought my bike was ok, though. |

OK fair enough. It's still a damn nice looking bike.
I was about to say that it's probably restriced. If its 33bhp it'll be washers in the carb rubbers/intake port area.
If you get it before this weekend, I'll come over. We'll get it running full power and go for a spin. If that's cool with you?
I think I can squeeze some time time for riding in this weekend. |

Yep carbs need to be pulled off. Take the washers out and pop it all back together. That should be all. (is on mine and many other bikes)
If it's a jap bike it may have the 112.5 (or whatever) restriction as well, but you need parts for that. Anyway 110 will do you for a while. |

I mean mine was £1300 and, you've ridden it: its running perfectly. So I recon at the same cost or maybe slight more, or indeed slightly less (eg a Honda nc23) you can get a sports 400.
Honda nc23s are meant to be better than nc29, for fast riding . Well some say |
