Hi guys, i've got a cbf 125 thats just over a year old, its in good condition, starts easily first time every time and ive been riding it almost every day since day 1.

There are a few things coming up soon that mean i wont be able to ride it for between 2 weeks to upto a month.

Is there anything I should do to stop any kind of deterioration? or is it too short time to worry about it?

When i was younger i had a yamaha sr 125, i went to university and didnt ride it for 6 months but didnt do anything before i stopped riding it, and it was never the same again afterwards. I dont want my cbf to deteriorate in the same way.

Thanks in advance.

Battery tender to stop it going flat.
Maybe drain the fuel or add stabiliser to avoid issues with stale fuel, but if it's only for one month probably not necessary.

There's a massive difference between 1 month and 6. TBH I wouldn't bother doing anything, just cover it up in case it snows again Crying or Very sad If you really want to go the whole 9 yards, then take the battery off and leave it indoors, switch the fuel off, and drain the carb(s).

drain fuel just incase the fuel goes bad, not sure how long it takes for fuel to get old though, it may be fine after a month.

Another thing is be prepared to charge up ur battery as it may get flat after a months time.

And i'd invest in an alarm system, a cheap and cheerful one is the cyclone alarm system (https://www.motorbikealarm.co.uk/shop/cyclone-compact-motorbike-alarm-and-immobiliser-system/) because if a thief notices a bike is unattended for a few weeks they may try to steal it.

I'd also keep it under a cover to keep it rust-free as i can guarantee it'll rain while you're away.

Just get a trickle charger, good to have anyway. No need to drain fuel, just fill the tank up.

2-4 weeks isn't a long time. Fuel will be fine. The battery should be
ok unless you have an alarm fitted and armed. If possible, you should
start the engine once a week. If you are likely to have more off-the-road
periods in future, it might be a good idea to invest in a trickle charger.

Thanks for the replies guys, i have a cover i use every night anyway with a big chain and padlock to secure it to a bracket concreted to the floor.

I think i will leave the fuel then, and i have a charger for the battery if its gone a bit flat when im back, ive just heard of people putting oil down the spark plug hole and stabilizers in the fuel etc but i guess 1 month isnt long enough to worry, a quick dose of ACF50 might be a good idea though.

Rather than try to save the battery with a charger when you get back, you should have it permanently hooked up to a trickle charger. If you can't then I suggest removing battery and storing indoors.

OP stop being so paranoid. Just lock it up nicely so it doesn't get stolen and don't worry about it. Then when you want to ride it again, quick check of the tyre pressures and off you go.

No you shouldn't. This will only drain battery power that will not be replaced due to the engine not running. Secondly the most engine wear is caused whilst the engine is cold. You wont be riding the bike around, meaning that the heat in the engine will stay localised to one position so not even the entire engine will warm. If you're going to start the engine once a week, do it properly and take it for a short 5 mile ride.

--------------------------------------------

But seriously OP, 2-4 weeks is nothing. I left the bike I'm selling 2-4 weeks before someone came to view it. I came home, tapped the starter button, fired right up. No issues.

Perhaps unplug the battery.

Check the tyre pressures before you ride it.

That is all.

Ok, i will just whip the battery out, will only take 5 mins. Other than that i will just leave it, i will be away from home so wont be able to start it up at all anyway.

Im was just a bit worried as not riding for 6 months and then not for months at a time on my old SR125 is what really ruined it. But im going to stop worrying now as it will be fine.

It shouldn't have done. Only thing I can think of is that your tyre pressures were low and your never checked them.
