Whats better a leather or textile jacket ? how much do you need to spend at a minimum and what brands do you need to be looking for ?
Trousers which are best kevlar, leather, textile ? again how much do you need to spend and which brands do you need to be looking for to get something that will do its job if needed ?
Thx |
1) both. where a fitting is not necessary because i'm totally comfortable/confident in the fit and style, i just order online (e.g got my boots online). other things like jackets or trousers, i'd go in-store for a fitting and buy.
2) a. horses for courses, i reckon. wearing leather at the height of summer can be a bit uncomfortable, that's where the textiles come in. but if you're planning on skidding down the track/road then i believe leather is a better alternative for reduced friction.
b. as always with anything, spend what you can afford and keep the old adage in mind "you get what you pay for" - don't expect a set of "Lidl Specials" leathers to be on par with high-end brand name gear. (Disclaimer: no slight on Lidl)
mind you, these days of the internet and all, you get some great discounts.
3) it was only in the last day or two that i was reading about kevlar jeans and the alternatives. i believe kevlar's chemical composition makes it degrade (quicker) after exposure to moisture.
other than that, same as before about leather/textiles in different weather conditions. ____________________ Bike: 2009 Bandit 650 | Licensed since: January 2012 | They stole my valve caps, the scum! |

If a leather jacket does not say its been treated to be waterproof is it safe to assume it is not ? What happens to leathers when wet ?
Take the below jacket for example is it waterproof or not ?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Richa-Leather-Motorbike-Motorcycle-Jacket/dp/B00AFVJW1W
So anything less than 100 quid for a jacket or trousers is likely to fall apart the minute it slides down the road right ? |
