Yesterday i got back from a 600 mile road trip over the weekend from Huddersfield to Bristol, then to Peterborough for the BMF and back to Huddersfield.

I got back and took the key out of the ignition but the bike still runs, i live in quite a rough part of town and the Neutral light stays on even when the steering lock is on so i have to leave it in gear so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb that it doesn't need a key..

Do i need a new ignition barrel or is there anything else that i could do that would fix it without having to spend money that i don't have on a new ignition?

The bike is a Honda NXR 125 (XR 125)

Could disconnect the ignition connector block or remove the ignition fuse as a temporary measure.

i cant get to the connecting block without taking off the headlight cowling.

Yeah, not exactly the comfiest bike to do that many miles on to be honest. It was nearly 12 hours straight riding on the way down to Bristol, the longest stop we had was half an hour.

Tell you what, my bum wasnt half sore XD

You could try and match your ignition switch with one on eBay. Pattern locks can be cheap and are exactly the same quality as the original ones. If it's a Honda one, looks the same and has the same wires it'll more than likely do the job.

Or take of the existing switch, and spray as much contact cleaner in there as possible. Then work the key, switching it on and off. Then WD40 it and repeat.

If that doesn't work then buy this.

I have already tried using half a tin of WD40 on it with no luck, i supose i will have to find £40 from somewhere for a new ignition.

Im starting to wish i hadnt spent all my money at the BMF now Doh!

I'd personally take the thing apart and see what's going on in there. Ignition barrels are fairly simple things and you've not got a lot to lose Very Happy
