Bike failed its MOT today. Nothing too major, but 2 of the things I dont know how to sort.

1 is "Headlamp aim too low".

How do I raise the lamp and also make sure it goes where the beam is meant to go if I dont have the measuring equiptment at home. Is there a certain hight from the ground that the headlight should face?

Any ideas on how to fix this appreciated.

And 2 is "offside handlebar deformed". I think this is because the right handlebar is only a few millimetres from touching the tank. And can quite easily crush your fingers if you are going round a tight right hand bend.

Could I sort this problem by fitting something on the steering stop (dont know if that is the correct name for this part but it would be logical to call it this), which would stop my handlebar going so close to the tank? Or is that too dodgy?

Other than that it needs:

Front wheel bearings - Cheap enough.

Rear Reflector - Got 1 in the garage.

Rear Tyre - Tread is fine, but the tyre itself is older than my sister, and is aging like my mother - starting to perish and crack.

NS cable routed incorrectly - my fault.
Put it back together wrongly when I was doing the fork seals but it has plenty of play in it so didnt think it would be an issue.

Cheers for any help on the those first 2 issues.

Here's a good explanation on how to make sure you've got your headlight right;

Headlight aim, adjust the headlight... Laughing

Handle bar = scaffold bar and bend it back. Bend both to match Laughing

It it's a steel tube bar and isn't kinked or wrinkled just bend it back into shape with your hands or a small piece of tube. If it's an alloy clip-on don't try this.

Headlamp - loosen the side bolts and tilt it. Point it at a door/wall and roll the bike backwards. If the spot on the wall goes down slightly you're good.

And watch your steering locks go ping!
If you're going to straighten your bars do it off the bike using a vise.
