Insurance Premiums.

I have just rang up Bennetts, who quoted me £580 TPO on a 1993 NSR125. I told them about the accident i had last month, where to driver didn't stop, and they were ok about it. i tried to get the premium down more, but they said it was the lowest they could go. Then when I asked them the price she put me on hold. About 5 mins later she came back saying the premium had changed because of this accident, and now it's £684 TPO?

The accident wasn't my fault, the other driver drove off, how can that bump up my premium by that much?? Was I right to tell them about the accident or should I have kept quiet? I suppose now I've told them, I have to let all the other companies know about it too

I will get about £50 if I cancel my current policy with 4 months left on a RXS100, and a promotional code that gets 15 % off Bennetts insurance so this will bring it down to about £530, is tis still high?

I'm 17, 7 months experience, 1 accident, but no claims, locked garage, quiet area etc.

Am a little pissed off now, really want to get on the road but insurance is looking crazy. The bike only cost me £80, don't see why I should have to pay like 7 times that just for TPO, it's so annoying.

The accident you had, was anyone else involved? Did you make a claim? If not then I can't see why you would need to tell them.

I don't see why Bennetts are touted so much by people. From what I can see they are just expensive. Anyone want to sell them to me? TPFT insurance is pretty much the same whoever you have it with, isn't it? Hence I might as well just go for the cheapest I can find.

Yes, a car did a U turn on a mini roundabout when he initially went to turn left and I went into the side of him. Bike flipped over and he just drove off. I didn't get his plate, and he for sure didn't get mine. Reported it to the police and heard nothing.

No claim my side, hardly did any damage, no claim his side.

Now that I've told Bennetts, if I ring them again they will know I had this accident now I've told them and if they ask again and I say no they will rape me wont they?

I'm looking for insurance around the £500 mark, hopefully lower if I can, reckon this is possible?

I believe offically you're meant to tell them about all accidents even if you're the only person involved. Personally I wouldn't bothered telling them about an accident where there was not an insurance company actually involved.

Simple solution to getting your insurance cheap is to ring around lots and lots of different companies (get Bike Trader and call everyone in the back) and then phone back around the cheapest few asking them if they can go any lower to beat the quote of £xxx from company ABC. Repeat until none will go any lower.

But if I start rining round again and say I havn't had any accidents, can't they check up with Bennetts and Bennetts will tell them I have ? Plus, do all insurance companies ask for a certificate of restriction on 125's or just take your word for it? My bike is derestricted and I'm not going to get it restricted just for a certificate.

Yes they could ring Bennetts and ask them questions about you but I see no reason why they would ever do that. There is no certificate of restriction available for 125's, they don't take your word for it as they never ask about it.

I'm with Castle Insurance in Reigate, got there number from someone at work gave 'em a ring and they were £250 cheaper than anywhere else I tried in Bike Trader (a lot, believe me). I'm paying £520 TPFT on my Senda SM 125 with 0 NCB and I live in a dodgy area, there number's 01737 223322, worth a try, they saved me a fair bit of money.

As for the accident, I wouldn't bother mentioning that if nothing came of it and there were no insurance companies involved.
