My new bike tht I pick up in Saturday has got new tyres recently fitted, qualifiers and in August I plan on going touring, instead of wrecking the new tyres I'm looking to fit some part worns, mainly should the front and back be the same? Or could I get away with just putting a part worn on the rear?

I won't even put part worn on my car, wouldn't even dream of part worn on a bike.

Put part worn roadriders on, tread was ridged up to fuck and crashed within a week or two.

Put part worn qualifiers on & ended up munching a tyre every 4k.

So, to conclude:
If you use an Avon, yoou're likely to die.

If you use a tyre one step down from racing/track tyre named for the softest tyre type available, it won't last that long.

Don't see it's got anything to do with part worn tyres.

As soon as you're five miles down the road from the tyre place, you then have a 'part worn' tyre.

So, not being made of money, I use them all the time Smile.

Plenty of different mixes of tyres do work well together.

i only use part worns no way im paying £200+ for a pair of tyres.

i have been using part worns since 2004 and have not had an issue just i only take tyres that have a minium of 4mm thread left and are not squared off.

i dont have a problem with punture repaired tyres as the best ive had are tyres which have got a punture in less than 400 miles and been repaired fitted to the bike for £30 all in.

my trip to scotland from london in 2007 the rear had 3 punture repairs and had no issues.
so long its had a proper repair should be fine

have a good long search on ebay or tyre shops

I change tyres as and when they run out, mix brands/models and I get on fine with it.

Currently have a "part worn" 50% left pirelli ST rear and a brand new Michelin PR3 front. Feels fine, although the front is a little lazy.

A big part of buying part worns is fitting them yourself.

Spending twice as much on fitting part worns compared to new eats up quite a bit of the saving.

For the record, I made a wheel balancer and bead breaker and bought tyre levers/wheel weights/rim protectors/valves/lube for about £20 all in.

M&P have Diablo Stradas for £139 the set. 120/180 sizes. Bought some for R1 for touring.

+1 to Iain's dodgy Avon, I'm using it now, makes for some amazing cornering, you look boss and you drift your 125 whilst having it skip massively to the side.

I did a full tour on a set of Supercorsa Scrubs. Excellent grip, and warmed warmed up fast in the wet too.

Downside was the front blew out about 40 miles from the Channel Tunnel on the way back, and once back the rear only lasted another 100 miles.

Still for £60 fitted I got over a good few thousand miles out of them.

Definitely going down the route of part worns then, really don't want to ruin a new setvof qualifiers!

Subtract the £30 for fitting to two loose wheels & chuck that into tyre fund. Add £20 & you have a pair of BRAND NEW tyres.

£30 each for the tyres, say. So that's a set of new tyres fitted for £110?

Local bike tyre place I used did loose wheels for £5 each and if you bought a £25-30 part worn from, you got it fitted to a loose wheel for free.
So buying from him, total price would be £60 or less for tyres that would often cost £200+ new and had well more than half the life left.

Used part-worn tyres many times. It's no different to re-fitting a tyre you removed yourself.

My local Watlings fixed a puncture in a loose tyre and fitted it to a wheel (that they removed th eold tyre off) for a tenner this week, mind you I did also have four new tyres fitted to my daughter's car.

Yeah a 180 will go on a 6" rim just fine.

Itll fit yes, but i hated it on my zx7. Kept riding off the edge of the tyre.

Run part worns all the time. I have a rather large stash of supercorsa rears i got for free. Laughing
