Heya, Looking to buy a oxford rainex cover as a gift but I'm not sure if I'm going to need to get a Medium or Large. It's for a 1998 Suzuki Bandit N600 which has crash bars fitted.

Sportsbikeshop advised a medium, which is 173cm x 94cm x 140cm. I'm not sure as the total length in the Haynes Manual says around 206cm.

Can anyone else advise?

Thanks

I have a Rainex cover and it has never been anything like waterproof. When I saw the name, I stupidly assumed it must keep the rain out. But it doesn't.

Ohright, that's odd because all the reviews on it are very good. Would you recommend any others?

NOt sure what my Oxford one is (it's black and silver, and came from Halfords) - but mine's a large and it's plenty big enough for my Fazer 1000.

Medium will definitely be ok for yoru bandit (which is what I had previously)

I bought mine on the basis of good reviews. But when you look at what it's made of, clearly it's never going to keep out more than the lightest of showers. I mostly use mine to cover the Bandit 12 when I'm out and about to hide it from thieving eyes, rather than keeping the elements, so it doesn't matter really. But annoying nonetheless.

Mine is large and covers the Fat Bandit without a problem.

I have the Stormex for the faired Bandit. If the Stormex and Rainex are the same dimensions, then a medium should suffice. I initially bought the medium, however due to the Givi rack and plate it was very slightly too small so went for the large!

I have used the Oxford Stormex for over a year now and not a drop of water has gotten through it. Thumbs Up

I have the Rainex large for the CB, it's never let any water in for the last three years.

Just the back end inner lining starting to wear as it catches the number plate when I lift it off so really that's my issue.

I think the Stormex would be better if the bikes not in a sheltered area.

I've got a medium cover on my Bandit, its not a Oxford one though, I'm not sure what the dimensions are either. It fits well though.

I bought a large stormex for a faired bandit, it's too big, go for the medium.

Stormex are great covers. But also about three times the price of the Rainex. My primary objective was to use the cover to make nickable bikes less obvious when parking in dubious places. If I left anything outside on a regular basis, the Rainex would be completely useless.

Thankyou for all the input guys,

Well I've found one on ebay from sum1 who live close by and they said they'd take £35 for it and I can pick it up, they've used it once and it's in like new condition.

Sportsbikeshop are selling it at £47.49 and I can always send it back for a replacement if it doesn't fit right.

Mainly they want it for when they are out and about on the bike incase it rains, they wouldn't use it at home because they have a bike tent/barn. I think the stormex would probably be to heavyweight and expensive for the intended purpose.

Do you think I should go for the ebay like new one or spend £12 more for the shop one?

For the sake of £12 get the new one, i would only be buying the used one for around £20.

Ive got the large Rainex for me ER6F. Fits tight over the mirrors and tail. Make sure you use the clip underneath or it will blow off. The harder material on top looks to be what the whole stormex is made of. Either one would suit fine.

Are any of them heat proof? Sick of waiting 20 minutes to put my cover on just so it doesn't melt onto my exhaust

Yes the Rainex is heat proof you can chuck it straight over the bike hot. Never had any problems with waterproofing, keeps the bike dry as far as I can tell, good quality thick outer material with a nice anti scratch lining inside to cosset your bike. Mine's been fine the year and a half I've had it.

If you can afford one get the stormex. Just replaced the one on my bandit after 5 years with another one. Handled everything that the weather threw at it. Would advise you treat it with a waterproofing spray every now & again.
The new ones look evn more sturdy now.
