Which CBF? 500 or 600?

Have been looking for a CBF600-4 for a while. Just a London hack. However the CBF500-4 is often much cheaper... Is there something wrong with it? Does 100cc in a machine like that make all the difference? What's the deal oh wise BCF folk?

I've got the 6 and can't complain. Can't say I've tried the 500 though.

600 has about 50% more power is bigger and heavier the 500 is slower lighter and will have better mpg.

There is quite a big difference.

The 500 isn't a four it's a twin. So big difference but both bulletproof bikes. I'd glady have the 600 and maybe the 500 if I was on a tight budget.

City bike? Pick the 500. You won't notice much difference in performance unless you ride everything to the limit

It will mostly live in town - doing runs into London's west end and back. But every now & again I blast to Yorkshire or Cambridgeshire - so have been looking for a £2k ish CBF600-4 faired. But the 500 keeps popping up.

Also thinking about going for the 500 next year. I see it as a nice step up from the 125 and the quoted mpg would be good (think it's 80 or so). Anybody got the new one?

If it's anything like its' predecessor the CB500 - top notch bit of kit for what it does.

The 500 is more than powerful enough for everything (could do with being a bit physically larger for 2-up touring with luggage, though).

Take this with a grain of salt (as I'm obviously not that experienced, see sig) but it seems like a VFR or other sports tourer is a better alternative to the CB/CBF600. Why settle for the halfway house?

This should allow you to compare the CBF500 and CBF600. I'd still ride both though and get a feel for them yourself.

I have a CBF500 as a commuter/ tourer. Brilliant bikes will easily keep up with traffic and return 50-60MPG,

I have also ridden up and down the country on mine without indecent.

A lot of London couriers use them for there job so I'd guess they must cope well with the London traffic, they are certainly good round town.

Thanks for all the replies. Think I have decided on a CBF600 SA-8 as it has some fairing and I'm a fat bastard so the extra few BHP will heave around my beer storage system. Am looking at one Saturday morning - a shopping accident my occur - which will please mrs danceanthems no end!!! ha ha.

Not correct!

The CBF500 has a single front disc and the CBF600 has twin front disc's.

I was looking for a 500 naked cos I liked the retro look of the round headlight but found them thin on the ground compared to 600s. I just bought a cbf600 today with abs and I can tell you it is one very smooth motor, no exciting power surges to get the adrenaline flowing but think more diesel power, high torque, low rev's cruising, if that what you want then the 600 is the right bike. If you want nippy snappy power then maybe the 500 is for you but I've never ridden one.
