Hi all
Thinking of getting a new bike a Daelim Roadwin or CBR 125
I like the Daelim but know nothing about them but the CBR feels a bit small
I have not been on a bike for 16 years now so any help would be great

I've never even heard of Daelim.

The CBR125 *is* small... what's made you choose these two bike in particular, over assorted traditionals or traillies?

CBR125, small, light, easy to learn on, styling and power not to everyones taste, probably be a good learner if you buy second hand and don't plan on keeping it for long. Stinky has one for sale.

The Daelim - Are you sure someone hasn't swapped the keys on your keyboard around?

How far's the commute and on what kind of roads? (Town, motorway, whatever)

Daelim are nice bikes, a bit like kymco here, only a select few have really heard of them, more commonly know as 125 producers

The roadwin looks nice for a 125, although I don't know how well proven the engine and build quality is. The honda is good on both of those counts and the sales show this, but pretty much everyone unknowingly sniggers at the cbr125 for being skinny and gutless.

A nice idea spoiled by honda, spoiled by skiny-ness.

Hmm, I'm assuming you have a decent budget then of roughly £2k?

I'd suggest you do a bit of training with a bike school, you know, to get you up to scratch and buy a bigger bike, maybe a 250 or 500(not as fast as you would think)...

All depends on how big your commute is too......

But know this: If you've got a full license and you buy a new 125, you will, I repeat WILL tire of its lack of power. And then if you wanted to upgrade, you'll find 125's depreciation are a bit cruel.

EDIT bugger, so you don't have a bike license....Okay then, daelim it is, but I'd say go for 2nd hand...as you will want to get a bigger bike after a short while and you won't like the depreciation of 125's prices.

Can recommend a good Honda dealer around the Brum area if you are interested in a closer look at a CBR?

Well I guess either of the bikes you're looking at would be okay.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a brand new 125, I'd pick up a second hand one and let someone else take the depreciation hit. Then I'd ride it for a bit, do my test and buy a nice 500 with a bit more poke.

Keep an eye on places like ebay as they usually put phone numbers on the adverts so you don't have to deal online. Bit like ad trader really, if you're sneaky like me

keep an eye on this forum, now and then people sell their cbr's there. Just beware, they do happen to speak the ancient language of the "teenager".....eye watering stuff, trying to read what they type.....

A guy who works for me has a Daelim. He got it from one of the importers, Bonanza Motorcycles. Nice looking bike when new but you can actually stand next to it and watch it corrode and rust. The finish is really terrible especially the chrome. It also took over 3 weeks to get some spares to fix a fault.
I rode it home for him one night when he was ill and honestly, they are heavy and not overly quick and handle like the tyres are made of jelly.

They are what they are, cheap and cheerful and there are far better bikes for your money out there.

Why do you need to buy new, might I enquire? There's very little to go wrong with a second hand CG125 or something. Buying second hand you will save over a grand, which should you decide you really like biking, will allow you to get your full licence and be a good start on buying a bigger bike.


There's nothing inherently wrong with the CBR125, however there are bikes better than it. For cheap reliable fun, you can get a CG125 or similar, which will go basically the same speed. Or you can buy a 2stroke 125, such as an NSR, and enjoy riding a real small sports bike. The CBR125 will be alot slower than a stroker. At the end of the day, the CBR125 is too expensive to bea cheap learner/comuter, and too slow to be a small sports bike. If you buy a cheap tatty 5yr old one, then there'd be no problem. But you can only buy new ones, or second hand less than a year old.

It's your choice, but most people here would agree that buying an expensive 125 is a bad idea.

Pass your test, get a CB250, or maybe a GS500.

Perfect commuter bikes, cheap as chips, pretty much indestructable with bulletproof engines. A 4t 125 would just piss you off.

I bought my Senda SM125 because of it's 4T engine. I'd not been on a bike for a couple of years, wanted to get back into it and wanted to get a bike I knew would last me a while. I know there's more powerful bikes about, but I'm still on my CBT at the moment and to be honest it does everything I want it to do. The way I see it I'll keep it for 2 years, and then trade it in for something bigger once my probation is up when I've passed my restricted licence.
