My daughter plays provincial hockey as well as swims.

She has been selected to go play for the U16 team on a tour of Germany, Belgium, Holland next year. The real hockey that most of the world plays, not the one with knives under your feet Mr. Green

The deposit alone is R5000. ouch. They give as this much notice because there is about no funding for white athletes, the parents have to pay themselves. The balance will depend on how much sponsorship the team and parents raise.

Oh well, will be good for her to go see the Fatherland, and what has become of it. Sad

Next step the Springboks and the Olympics Very Happy

LOL. not a word. No need. she will be playing sport, not visiting the bazaars.

I will tell her not to use English. rather speak Afrikaans so they don't take you for a liberal.

Lovely stuff!

I used to play representative hockey in Australia as a lad - played goalie and even with all the pads on, it's bloody terrifying to see eight big blokes with sticks running at you with the express intention of smacking a hard white ball directly through you.

Pretty satisfying sliding in and tackling the ball while taking four of them out at the same time though.

She'll have a ball, I'm sure.

I once saw an aussie team playing against England. At first I thought the aussies were playing against India.

There was a token white or 2, and I thought there must still be some brits in india, but then they said it was the English side.

I thought that one guy called it the Mutterland.

Real club-ball is called shinty or hurling, but I guess hockey is OK for girls or you chaps from the Southern Colonies.

hurling is what the brits do on the street when they come out of the pub after too much beer.

Like the noble Esquimaux, we have many words: hurling, spewing, horking, chundering, calling on Huey.

Getting in touch with the little girls' perspective again? I'm actually fairly impressed. Thumbs Up

But then they'll just assume she's some middle class Dutch lass, and everyone knows all middle class Dutch lasses are liberal to the bone.

Going to wait and see what the team raises from corporate sponsors. They say it will be about R25 000 per kid with no sponsors, or nearly £2000.

Will make a donation from our work, and the SA bikers before tapping you lot Razz

problem with tapping individuals remotely is there is no way to prove it is spent on the kid's sports tour. With corporate you say can 1 airfare. 1 night stay for x number of players etc. and show where their money went. Hence the collection should be by the team, not by me or a parent.

Come closer to time, if funds needed I will suggest it and see if they will make a fund for Northerns Girls U16 Euro hockey tour. For all the kids, not just mine. I can afford, but many parents will struggle to pay it.

Maybe I will fly up to watch a few matches Very Happy . Havent been to der Vaterland in a while. Figure may as well go to Turkey. It will look the same Laughing
