Over yesterday and today I decided to give polishing my swingarm and downpipes a go, it took a gold few hours but I think it was worth it, i used different grades of wet and dry paper with autosol and a lot lf rags. Anyway pictures below Smile

Started with 180 on a vibrating sander thing, just to get all of the crap off, then worked up from 400 up to 1200, then autosol.

The swingarm I just used 180, then a worn down 180 then autosol (couldn't be bothered to go and buy different grades until I decided to do my downpipes today) Laughing

Only thing is, one side of the swingarm didn't come up as shiney for some reason, doesn't bother me though.

I'd be wary about using 180 in future, the scratches can be a beggar to get out. Personally I wouldn't start with anything harsher than a 320.

Meh, worked well for me, however the 180 was meant for wood, so might have worn down quicker Smile the rest of the grades were meant for metal.

Good job on the swing arm, but I can see a lot of work keeping it looking any kind of good after anything other than nice, dry weather!

With enough elbow grease and time any result is possible, this was all hand polished - no electrickery (although in retrospect it would have been a sight quicker)

Depends if you let the weather get at it, a quick bit of autosol soon brings it back to mirror.
The flatter and smoother you get it the easier it is to keep shiny!

I clean my bike every week or so anyway so It isn't really a problem for me Smile

Works well on hornets Wink that's what I have Smile

It didn't smoke at all, I made sure all of the polish, finger marks etc. were off, apparently left over oil and stuff can make the downpipes change colour unevenly.
