At the risk of ripping off Top Gear, I'm trying to figure out, is Triumph cool or uncool?

New to the world of bikes, looking in the longer run at a 600 sports bike. Daytona 675 gets great reviews but something holding me back from really wanting one. When I think Triumph I think old fashioned.

So, putting it out there, is Triumph uncool, cool or sub zero?

Triumphs are cool, because I have one. However, I also buy my clothes from supermarkets and own a caravan, so a second opinion may be advisable.

Never really looked into them, or owned one..

but because they don't make a 125cc class.. I'de rate them sub zero

Reason for never wanting one is because I don't believe in bikes over 400cc...

Not much real-world performance gain for rather a large expense of parts and car-level MPG... no thanks.

But otherwise, their cool bikes Smile

Shocked

Have you actually tried riding a 400cc + bike I wonder ?

I guarantee you there are massive 'real-world' performance gains to be had . . . . Thumbs Up

Honestly, no.

Yeah.. maybe there is bombing it down an open A road, or on the M25.. but not down the craggy little streets of London...

No, the sig speaks the truth.

I just regard the 500 twin the same as a 400 IL4.. possibly a bit slower!

It's probably because I have not met anyone yet who really can utilise the 600cc+ power.. Everytime there's been someone on a 600 GSXR or a Ninja "making progress" I've always been able to keep pace with them. Of course during the straights they start to pull away at about 45+ MPH but that's the only real difference I've seen so far.

Who knows. Maybe one day once I've ridden a super sports or something I can really understand. But from my third party perspective, I see little difference.

I suppose the golden rule apply's here, it's not the bike that's the limit, it's the rider...

Maybe they weren't trying to make progress but you were thrashing the nuts off the CBF?

IME larger cc bikes don't make you faster per say, they just make speed far more easy to achieve.

That is a possibility, I remember one time, I raced a ducati of the line... I rushed off letting the CBF scream it's face off just getting to 70mph.. where most it's "go" runs out... then as it was approaching 90 (tops out at 115) the ducati just effortlessly passes me... not even close to it's limits, just cruising on by...

That's licence loosing territory already on the 500, I can't Imagen what sort of conditions you would need to give a 600 or a 1000 full throttle.

I think the Daytona's are pretty but the speed triples are ugly as feck. People seem to love newer Triumph's so they can't be bad.

If you're buying it because it's cool, it's not.

Depends which Triumph. The Trophy is not cool, the 675R is. For example.

Depends on the colour too.

Stupid red subframe = not cool

Gold taken from the Subaru wheel catalogue = not cool

Scaffolding attached rear numberplate = not cool

New Triumphs aren't as cool as old Triumphs because they're too good.

In much the same way the old Lamborghinis are cooler than the new ones.

Generally very uncool. There are a small number of sub-zero HD's though. Google "Mickey Rourke Harley Davidson Black Death".

I like the red subframe loads of bikes have gold forks so what all new bikes have stupid numberplate hangers due to stupid rules in some country or another put on a tail tidy.

There I think that's covered. Thumbs Up

Why do you care? Are you a dedicated follow of fashion?

https://farm1.static.flickr.com/91/256731637_9e54c27aee.jpg

It's a bike, get one that interests you, you plum.

Now, how "new" are you? If you start one of those "Awwww, mum doesn't want me getting a bike, what can I do?" threads, I shall be mildly miffed.
