Yeah i had a feeling it might be a bit shit, losing half it power, The big seat appeals to me i might leave to goldwing venture until i have a full unrestricted license then.
I have sat on a few but never ridden one. I was wonder how it was still going thinking it was Chinese
How about Suzuki burgmans 400 or 650(lose man points for buying one?) I believe there's no need to restrict either.
My karma is getting better
Thanks Brendan |

If you like tourers, how about riding out your A2 on something like the Honda Deauville? If it's that big screen look you're after, then there are plenty of aftermarket solutions. I cable tied a spare visor on top of my stock screen. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

The seat is perfect for me and the Mrs, The exhaust is stainless, and has almost a year TNT so hopefully it will give me some easy riding
What insurance company's would be worth looking at? I'm going to have a look at previous threads about insurance. |

Restrict to A2 complient?
Checking specs, it's NOT all that powerful to begin with.
| Quote: | 82.00 HP (59.9 kW)) @ 7500 RPM
Dry Weight (without fluids): 266 kg (586.4 pounds) |
It's a bit on the hefty side... but the reputation is a little bloated these days. It was about the heaviest thing you could buy with two wheels, other than in Ifor Grain Trailer, in 1983... but as bikes have got bigger over the last quarter century, so the old's Wing's gross-weight has 'normalised' as not much over average in the heavy-weight class.
It is only a few kilo's heavier than my old '84 VF1000, that supposed to be a litre 'sports' in its day!
For comparison,
ZZR1100 is quoted at 256 kg, only 10Kg less.
GSX1400 is quoted at 229 kg
Harley Electra-Glide is quoted at 395Kg!!
Contemprary GL1800 Wing is quoted at 363 kg
I have to confess a soft-spot for the early GL's, though I preffer the very early, naked version before it took on all the Aspencade crap; original GL1000.
And while it's heavy, its reletively well balenced for such a big bike, thanks to the boxer motor and underseat fuel tank. Certainly no paragon of handling, but not what the things built for really.
ANYWAY.... 60Kw down to 35... almost half OE power. It is a big drop, and it Is a heavy bike, it would be like cutting one of its bollox offs, but thats not what the bike's about. That bikes about low down grunt, and wafting along on a tirickle of throttle.
In such a low state of tune to begin with, it could take restriction reasonably well; intake restrictor plates would clip peak air-flow to clip peak power, but it OUGHT to have enough left, accross the rev-range not to be too nasty.... BUT it's still got a lot of weight to shift, and shaft drive would make it awkward to down-gear.... I dont know if they have lower ratio pinions for side-car haulers that might offer solution, but I have a feeling the tend to use a smaller wheel instead.
If the money was right and you like it... it's do-able... but its a old classic and I'm lead to believe that some bits are getting harder to get hold of these days.
Personally, on A2, for that 'sort' of bike; the Wing's little brother; the CX500 Silver-Wing suggests itself a more likely candidate. Except that while its smaller and lighter, I know that its actually a more unwieldy machine to man handle! And long in the tooth, there aren't so many nice examples out there any more, and they have a fair few known niggles like wear in the crown-wheel & rot in the swing arm cradle.... Deuville would be the more sensible option. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!
