Hey guys, are there any race schools you could recommend for a complete beginner like me? It's always been an ambition of mine to ride a sport bike, and I feel being on a track with other beginners and a qualified instructor would be a good place to start.

I checked out the California Race school online, but they want a 1k deposit which I'm a bit wary about. I don't want to bin the bike and end up paying a grand. That would add even more pressure.

Cheers!

I'm not eligible for an unrestricted licence so I couldn't buy one.

Oooo; harsh.

That will also limit where you can do trackdays I suspect.

Consider seeing if you can find a road legal SV650 track bike or similar (on an SV650 the race suspension and setup makes much more of a difference than say on a R6).

That would allow you to ride in ACU groups on the very few trackdays which have them - which are far from an ideal for a first timer, as you'll have racers practicing for an upcoming meeting.

Expect some very closes passes and people that will expect you to be at a reasonable pace.

What about the Ron Haslam School at Donnington?

Or the Chris Walker race school at mallory, or how about Track Training Sessions with James Whitham which is only only £102.

All of them are suitable for beginners.

Erm, no need for a race school.

Buy bike, do trackday, enjoy.

Buy "A twist of the wrist 2", read it, do another trackday. Apply some of it.

However, no matter how many times I've read the book I'm still slow as shite, but I still maintain it's good advice, and much better value for money than a race school.

You can ride in any group at a track day with an ACU licence.

Which company/track?

No Limits at Mallory and they didn't seem to care about much generally (I did present my ACU licence for a normal, albeit pre-race trackday, but I'm not sure they even checked it).

MSV at Brands and it was ACU only for ACU group.

I presume it's based on their insurance and how much they care about it.

Cheers for that, mate! Mallory is super close to me and the school looks pretty decent.

Thumbs Up

A few tracks with no limits, brands, cadwell and mallory so far I think. For track days it's either full road licence or acu. Having an acu licence doesn't mean you're quick!

Since I'm being exploited for £6 an hour at the moment, those race schools seem quite expensive. Might have to take up a cheaper form of racing until I earn some more money.

There isn't a cheaper form of racing... Unless you want to go for Mini Moto or something, even then a decent Mini Moto will cost you more than a race school.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Was thinking endure. I mean to get good I'd have to go to a few race schools. A half decent endure can be had for around 1.5k and there's plenty of sites/track near me.
