I bought a GN125 for 995 from a dealer, but now getting a bigger bike Very Happy Very Happy Had it about 2 weeks and put about 100 miles on it, but I'm not patient enough to ride a 125cc anymore. What would be a reasonable sell back price and what would be taking the piss?

If you're getting getting the bigger bike from them I would ask for what you paid. Might be difficult if the new bike was cheaper, though.

If not then they don't really have any obligation to buy it back, but naturally you would start negotiations at the price you paid in any case.

Realistically the dealer isn't going to offer more than about 700 probably closer to 500 is about the going trade rate for a gn125, but if your part exchanging you should be able to get a bit more.

Fuck that's crazy! Would rather keep it than take that kind of loss!

What the dealer is going to do with the bike after he's bought it from you:

Clean it, check it over and inspect service items such as brakes, brake pads and possibly service it. This all costs time in the workshop but has to be done as he is liable for anything that's an issue and causes someone riding it to be injured such as brakes not working properly.

Why did you buy it if you were hopping up onto a bigger bike so soon?

Didn't think I'd be moving up so quick. May try and part exchange it for a crosser or endure.

It costs a dealer more than £150 to put a bike through their workshop and advertise it etc.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Best thing is to ask how much trade in against something he has.

It may be that he's got something you want that's not shifting that he's happy to drop the price on (give you more for yours) and you both come to a deal you're happy with.

be polite about it, people are more likely to come down a bit if you're pollite, friendly and understanding that they've got to make a living.

Then why not sell it privately?
Unless you want to trade it in for a bike thats pricey they wont give you much for it, its a business after all.

I'd think the dealer would atleast want to make some money for his troubles.. i'd expect around £700 maybe more because your trading in..

300 loss isn't really acceptable. I'll see what comes up in stock though

I'd be surprised if he wants it back at all unless you're trading in and, even then, I doubt you'll be overwhelmed by his generosity.

Selling straight back to a dealer will be a fair loss I think. As others have said, it will need putting through the workshop, plus they have no obligation to take it anyway. I'm considering selling my bike back to the dealer, I've only had it since February, but I'm convinced I'll make a 50%ish loss if I do.

Not really worth it then. 50% loss, you're better of keeping it or selling private.

The 50mph bike with the wobbly rear wheel with no key? Did you manage to get the tank open?

This isn't polite, but it's honest: you got mugged on it, you'll get mugged if you go back.

Your best bet is to shine it up and sell it privately. "Future classic" is a popular phrase.

He's only gong to sell it for £900 odd again so you'll probably get £700 odd part ex on another bike, or less for cash, if they even want it

You're right I did get mugged on it. The wheel is now sorted though and have a new key.

worth around 60%-70%

imagine when you walked in the dealership and he said I have a brand new one for 995 or a used one for 900?

you would of swallowed the extra 95 for a brand new one right?

a bike will depreciate straight away. He will need to sell it for a significant saving in order for it to be attractive.

Sell privately Thumbs Up

Like anything. Once it's off the fore court it's already worth less. I would slap it on scum tree/bgay with a starting price of 650. Unless trading in.

Hang on, you bought the 125 with a dodgy wheel etc, and are now contemplating buying another bike from the same dealer?

Which is what I would have said if I were being polite. Wink

The only thing that dealer should get from you is a Hetzering.
