Anyone had their tonsils removed?

Because i get tonsillitis roughly twice a year. Was wondering if it would be best just to get them removed? Though apparently if you do that, you are more prone to more serious illnesses.

Mine were sliced out under general about 7 years ago.

Never ever ill apart from becoming asthmatic 3 weeks after giving up smoking 5 years ago and having a stroke 2 weeks ago.

Had mine whipped out about 30 years ago. No noticable negative effects since then. Most serious illness I've had in recent years is shingles.

Had mine out when I was 15.
I still get tonsillitis
The stumps (can't remove it all) get blobby and swell.
Much better getting them out though as it was like having a pair of golf balls in my neck.

Like angryjohnny I get shingles but I doubt that's lack of tonsil related.

I rarely get ill, apart from the shingles. and RA, and....

My doctor suggested i should get them removed based on my past record of tonsillitis. It really is a last resort, i have a phobia of hospitals.

dont understand your face palming comment Shereen was it sarky? You can still get tonsilitis if the roots are still there.

I had mine out at 32, worst pain ever but only the occasional sore throat since. You are more susceptable to serious illnesses if you leave tonsils in that are infected a lot, theres a certain poison that is very toxic to the body, rheumatoid arthritis can be caused by this, I didnt believe it when the doc told me but its true.

Mine were removed 2 years ago, had a bout of tonsillitis earlier this year but wasn't anywhere near as bad as I used to get.
