Buying a Suzuki TL1000s ...

Hi all .

Bro is looking at buying a TL1000s . Thought I'd ask the experts what should I look out for ? Should I take it for a test ride ?

I know that they have shitty rear shocks which cause frames to crack.

If someone could point out what I should be looking at while stationary and when I take it for a test ride I'd be greatfull .

Had a recall to fit a cheapo steering damper. Early models have the oil sight glass in the wrong place (too high) resulting in potential overfilling.

The recommended amount of chain slack isn't enough, so it can effectively make it a hardtail under acceleration. Hence the wayward handling.

Rotary rear shock is crap as you know.

Head and wheel bearings, they were hard on these, similarly rear cush drive got battered, check it. Usual suzuki things from this era, corrosion, pitted forks, wiring bodges. Has it got the original pipes or are the ones on it road legal and has it been mapped to suit cos the fuelling was a bit lumpy with the standard ones.
Usual service history and mot mileage checks. The rear shock as mentioned is utter crap, the motor is scary but if you can handle it is fun, get a test ride and if you can hold it flat out in any gear above 3rd for 5 seconds it should be ok.
