I think it wouldn't hurt that much at all. The worst part of an injury is when there's lots of damage, so the most painful things are the massive muscles sprains, twisting things, etc. With tissue injuries, it's often not painful at all unless you actually touch the exposed area. Consider the amount of times you've injured yourself and it bled a lot but didn't really hurt at all until you had to clean it. Plus the duration of the injury to this guy must have been less than a millisecond, so it's hardly a psychological trauma to endure.

Although cutting a tendon or going straight through a nerve is a different matter, I guess. Also could've chipped a bone or.... gone straight through the very middle of a joint
