I was in Bridgend a couple of weeks ago, came out of JT's, looking for Thunder road. Blade was running like a dream, then, bluh, no problem tho as I switched onto reserve. Spotted a BP garage, went in & filled up with Ultimate. Paid the woman & asked directions for Thunder road, noticed she was smiling as she waved me off. 200 yards from the dealer, complete loss of power, smoke from the exhaust, the works........ I'd only gone & filled my bike with Ultimate Diesel!!!!!! 80 ish miles from home, I had to then phone one of my mates to come pick me up, he in turn phoned everyone he could think of & tell them the tale. Bike was back on the road the next day after we stripped down the carbs & flushed everything out, actually seems to be running smoother.

2 days later I left my bike round at another mates garage, came back to find it covered in dozens of Dyno-tape stickers, Turbo Diesel Injection, TDI, Diesel, etc., you get the picture. Went into the newsagents on main street & the woman there told me they had sold out of Diesel Biker magazine, was in Tesco's with gf & had people coming up asking if I'm getting better mpg now that I've converted my bike!!

No real point to this, but as everyone I know knows about my little lapse of concentration just thought I'd give you all a laugh at my expense & if you want to save yourself torment for the rest of your life then please pay attention at filling stations.

Laughing you gotta laugh Laughing

Did exactly the same thing on the way down to a trackday!

Phoned ahead to the track, to see if anybody could come and pick me and the bike up (I hadn't started it) and by the time I got to the track it had been announced in the briefing..... Rolling Eyes Embarassed

My screen name became dieselninja for quite a while.....

On a more serious note though, BP admitted there was a problem with their signage for the BP Diesel Ultimate, and you can claim the cost of any damage to your vehicle back from them....
I would email BP, I'm sure it cost you to flush the engine.... Wink

Never done it with a bike. But my Dad did it with his Lotus engined Talbot Sunbeam many years ago.

Nice lady behind the petrol counter said. "ooh, that's a nice car. Is it a diesel?"

Not with Webber Carbs across the top of it doesn't want to be, why?

Well, that's what you've just filled it with! Laughing

He'd brimmed it from full too! Luckily the garage was a private one and the guy that owned it was there and drained it out and bought it back off him. If he'd have started it up it'd have cost a fortune to rebuild.

And I've never let him forget it since!!!! Twisted Evil Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hi

Many years ago in a real hurry I went in to a petrol station , past the 4* pump, past the 3* pump to the "2*" pump. Filled it up then noticed the fuel was a bit foamy. Then noticed it was the diesel pump. Wandered into the pay kiosk. "Didn't know they made diesel bikes" said the attendent. "They don't, have you got a bucket" I replied.

Got bored waiting for the diesel to come out of the fuel tap in the end so turned the bike upside down (little XL100).

Did a lovely impression of a 2 stroke after that, with little engine braking and loads of smoke for a bit.

By the way, with the Lotus Sunbeam (and most older cars) you would do no real damage trying to run it on diesel.

All the best

Keith

Wotcha.

Quite a few of the guys I used to work with have filled their diesel vans up with petrol. I always carried a couple of empty five gallon drums and a good length of plastic hose. It even got to the point where the gaffer would phone me whenever one of the lads did it.
As long as they hadn't started the engine, I would empty the tank and "dispose" of the 10 gallon or so of contaminated fuel. I found the best way to dispose of it was to use it in the bike Wink Everyone was happy, the gaffer didn't have a silly bill for 'repairing' the van, and I had a nice supply of free petrol.

(The same site as Stinkwheel got that picture from) has a bunch of MZ diesels on. They really love their gaiters. Smile

Wouldn't a diesel bike be more than a bit vibey, rather heavy and not very high revving though? I imagine the Chug chug chug might get annoying too. Smile

True but the 1000mile tank range and the ability to run on used chip fat would more than make up for it in my book.

Did you know that there are about 3 alternatives to diesel that can be easily obtained yet waisted regularly (like chip fat). But it's illegal to use them if you do, thanks to our tight fisted government.

Hi

Perfectly legal to use them if you pay the duty on the fuel. No real reason why (for example) chip fat cannot be added to diesel fuel during the refining process. Think a couple of percent of French diesel is vegitable oil.

Lets have diesels that run on Shell Grip. Than way when they spill it they improve the road Cool .

All the best

Keith
