that's really dear. i paid £60 bike rental when learning.

but yeah if you have your own bike, then they can't charge you bike hire obviously. but she wouldn't be able to ride it to him, you'd have to ride it, or trailer it there for her.

If you can find insurance to cover a learner under the tuition of an instructor then she should be able to ride her own bike (When you get it) as it would be in accordance with the law (Or so I believe this to be the case.)

£150 including the training or purely for bike hire?
If it's the first it's not that bad, although surely yes, mention it to the school, say she already has a bike and ask if she can use it.

But she wouldn't be able to ride to and from the instruction or to and from the test. Someone else would need to ride it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Mine was £140 a day for bike hire and training, so I imagine that's what it is.

Seems odd, must include training surely.
When I did my test (about 10 years ago though) the bike hire was £25...that's bike only for the test.

Bikesure offer insurance for learners, my son got a policy offering 2 months as a learner then 10 months as a full licence holder.

Where abouts are you Ammoman?

I could offer your wife training using her own bike for £100 a day if you in an area that I cover. PM me if you dont want to disclose your whereabouts on here Smile

Cheers, Paul, I'd blanked on who was offering that insurance. Several people have been asking about it.

You can get her a bike first, but to satisfy her provisional entitlement to ride anything bigger than an 11kW 125, she needs to be:

Arrow Displaying L plates front and rear.
and
Arrow Wearing fluorescent (or at night, fluorescent or reflective) clothing.
Arrow Be in radio communication with a certified DAS instructor in possession of his certificate [*], who has no more than two such learners under his care.
or
Arrow Be on test.

The majority of the cost is in that instructor's time, the bike hire component will be, what, £20 a day. That's all that you could save, and it would mean the instructor coming out to her, likely on her time.

If she wants to practice on her own time, it'll have to be on a 125 unless she's got access to "private roads".

[*] I wonder if any instructor has been asked to display that, or a certificate of insurance for the bike, ever. Thinking Very Happy
