Can an F-35 really carry a 4m missile? That'd seriously affect its range.

Still, nice big bang although I really wanted it to break in two and sink as per the movies.

Quite possibly.

Apparently it can carry AIM-120 amraam's in its internal bays.

Wiki puts the amraam at 3.7m long so not far off from 4m. Obviously with it stored internally you dont get all the airdrag (and corresponding range loss) from external mounting. You still spend a bit more fuel lugging the extra 150 kilos about tho!
