Totally agree, road racing is just on a different level.

I've been to a Catalunya GP, and I really did enjoy it, but it was too bastard hot! The atmosphere was brilliant, much better than Donny.

I had a quick look to see how much tickets were for Silverstone GP this year as I haven't been to a GP since the change from Donny, 70 flippin' quid Shocked !

I'm going to the Southern 100 in three weeks, £130 quid for a return ferry, £90 for digs for the week and 11 road races to see, much better value for money IMO.

I spoke to a couple during TT week who booked the fortnight after watching the highlights on TV last year. This was the first road racing that they'd ever seen 'live' and they're now totally hooked. They've booked for both the Southern 100 and Manx Grand Prix this year and the full fortnight at next year's TT.
The island may be expensive to get to with a bike during the TT period but once here you get to watch a full fortnight of road racing for absolutely nothing. I pretty much gave up watching circuit racing years ago, for me nothing comes close to a full spec 200+bhp TT Superbike travelling at up to 200mph on the roads just a meter or two in front of you, and the first sight of a 150mph sidecar outfit dropping off Bray Hill will take your breath away.
Faldo if this is your first time at the Southern you'll enjoy it, the course is about 4.25 miles long so after two laps the field spreads out and there is pretty much always a bike in front of you. Try to get out of Castletown, Iron gate is a good spec as is Cross Four Ways, Church Bends and Stadium Corner.

First time on the island. I've been trying to get over for a few years now, but life has always thrown obstacles in the way! I booked this in January, and have been counting the days since. I will be staying at King Williams College. Thanks for the info on viewpoints, most helpful.

I went to the IOM Southern 100 races last year. Holly Crap!
The sight of bikes flat out a couple of feet from me was unbelievable! How the one guy had the presence of mind to mount the kerb on the exit of Church Bends, with the throttle still wide open I'll never know. Wish i could get back this year...
ps i tried booking the Steam Packet Racket ferries for next year. Most are booked up already. Do people get home asnd immediately book for the year after??

Quite a few of the TT 'regulars' book their sailings for the following year as soon as they arrive on the island, it's really the only way to guarantee that you will get your preferred sailing times. The TT is growing in popularity again. The Steam Packet Co said they carried 11,500 bikes and 35,000 passengers to the island this TT period, only the Centenary TT in 2007 has attracted more people in the last ten years.

Any recommendations for accommodation for TT 2014 Kestrel? I'd be happy to camp, but my mates are old and want a decent bed?

Join the forum at :- www.iomtt.com

There is an accommodation section on the forum. Many of the locals operate a Homestay where they take in paying guests in their own homes, all homestays are checked and licenced by the government, prices vary. There will also be listings for rented flats and houses, guest houses etc. Post your requirements and I'm sure you will get sorted.
The forum is also a good site for info on all things TT.
