That lad could have just say that they took apart a standart scooter and put the variator on a cruiser/chopper or whatever it is. Good for paraplegics though Thumbs Up

EDIT: they say that their thing gives it amazing sound and awesome power, I think I'm gonna get a couple of these, just to spice up my dad's car a bit Laughing Laughing Laughing

Personally, I don't see the fascination of automatics, it would get boring quite quickly IMO.

There is no way, standard clutch with proper control works better than a belt sliding between two wheels Thumbs Up

The variator does eliminates mistakes, that is true, but other than that, it's still a sliding belt.

Q: does it work, when it gets wet?

It's a CVT right. The same CVTs that were outlawed in F1. They can always hold the engine at peak torque in theory, so should be faster than a "normal" gear box. Not sure about their increase in power claims, but it makes it very easy to use all of your available power. I guess cruisers need all the help they can get.

I'm sure Aprilia or Yamaha made something similar a few years back??

It is a fully automatic gearbox with a manual override (+ and - gears on the left hand bar). If you're coming up to a bend and you'd rather be in a lower gear, just knock it down one on the left hand bar, and as you come out of the corner and pick up the pace it will automatically change up gear for you. By shifting gear whilst in automatic mode it gives you a bit more control but doesn't override the automatic transmission altogether.

On the right hand side bar there is an override so you can just use the left hand controls to change gears like a semi-auto.

Seems pretty good, really.

However, I have the full manual version, automatics are for gays.

Yup, DCT gearbox is actually pretty good, changes gear faster than a manual. You can even get the optional extra gear lever so you can change gears with your foot.

That said, I've also got the manual version because a) it was a lot cheaper and b) I didn't want to lose touch with riding a manual.
