Washing motorcycle clothing

Pretty much all of my stuff (kevlar trouser, helmet inserts etc) says to handwash at 30 degrees.

Has anyone ever just dumped it into their washing machine at 40 degrees (lowest temp) or will that fuck it up?

Wanted some advice before I ruin them.

I have, my kevlar jeans shrunk but everything else came out ok

Washed all my textiles in the wash.

All came out fine. Just put it on a low spin cycle and hang dry it away from a radiator.

Washed my textile trousers with the armour in on the sports intensive mode and stuck in the tumble drier to dry. No adverse effects.

Textiles - Washing machine, 30'C
I take all the armour out first though.

Leathers - a damp cloth only

I just dumped my textiles (Rukka) into the laundry last weekend. No special handling or detergent. Air dried.

The label on these, however, don't call for any special handling. They just say to machine wash at a particular temp, take the armour out and don't tumble dry. When I bought this set, they suggested washing once or twice a season because road dirt can build up and act like a wick, pulling in water.

Lots of washing machines have a hand wash setting these days.

Doesn't washing them affect the waterproofing? I washed a snowboarding jacket once, it was never waterproof again

For my leathers I use a babywipe to remove road grime, bugs etc.. as they are the shit for cleaning almost anything, the insides I use an aerosol type cleaner/freshener and then air them on the washing line for a few hours.

I only use Nixwax products. They work. Cool Wash. Air Dry. Get Dirty again.
And take the armour out. The gear will wash better.

And take your paper counterpart out too....


And Nikwax for leather care. It works too...

just follow what's on the label, they know their own clothing better than anyone on here

my washing machine has 30'c and 20'c too, sports and hand washing setting is probably the best ones to use.

I take the armour out and use the cool setting on the dryer
