Parking Outide A Motorcycle Bay

Advice needed fellas...

Anybody got experience of challenging parking tickets from the world's greatest cnut authority that is Westminster?

I was parked at the rear of a bay at Cambridge Circus. As it was packed I had to park it straddling the bay with front and rear wheels outside (not wholly) the markers. It was ignored by one attendant as I saw him walk by but when I came out of the shop another had ticketed me.

Worth challenging or just swallow it and pay the £65?

That's the one by Cambridge Circus if I am not mistaken? I was told that if one or two wheels are outside the actual parking zone then a fine will be issued - in this instance it's not clear from your illustration how you parked. If your wheels were on the pavement then I don't think you'll win - if they weren't then may be worth contesting!

To be honest I wouldn't of thought you'll get very far.

Even in bristol they've become right c-nts about parking the past year. We have the usual specific MOTORCYCLES ONLY parking, but they've even done some people for sharing bicycle parking chaining their bikes to the bars like the ones in the background of your picture.

And in those cases it was in extremely quiet areas with virtually no bicycles currently or likely to use the parking - seems they send their ticket-minions out to the places they think will get the most cash rolling in

I used to park in Westminster. I had a permit. Still collected all of these (and more) outside my house. Shower of bastards.

You can contest your first motorbike parking ticket with Westminster and usually get away with it. I did about 3 years ago in similar circumstances to you. I just said I had no idea it wasn't ok to park like that in Westminster - oooh all these different boroughs rules are confusing sort of thing and the let me off.

Worth a punt anyway.

I'd hate to live/work somewhere like that, in the 3 years I've been riding I have parked on pavements, double yellows, loading only bays, car specific parking spaces and several other places.

Not once have I got a ticket.

How do you know where the back of the bay is?? It's all the same level. Get pics of the whole bay for me including any sign plates adjacent to it.

I would contest it even if you have no chance of getting off. Let them work for there money. It will take them time and money to review your case so ultimately they will be earning less of your hard earned.

where are the markers? I'm assuming those circles are where your wheels where? I don't see any defined area other than the broken line at the front. I would without a doubt challenge this. if they want bikes in a particular area they need to mark out the whole area, one line is no good

if it's the bollard that is separating it then you were this side of it. I really don't think they are throwing straight dice here

If everyone appealed fully they wouldn't bother with issuing half their tickets as the admin costs would defeat the object of them doing it (raise revenue) in the first place...

I'd take this to appeal purely to make the case that there is absolutely nothing negative about the way you were parked.

Double yellows are there for a reason, generally. To avoid the creation of low visibility areas, to make sure emergency services have access, to stop trunk roads becoming congested, etcetera.

Parking ten centimetres outside of a marked bay causes no issue at all. Looking at the path, no-one would be obstructed because they'd have to perform the hurdles over some bicycles to get anywhere anyway.

I mean, come on. There are daft laws that have at least a .01% chance of being useful (like speeding, you are increasing your risk of crashing a nonzero amount, even if you and I and everyone reasonable thinks it's irrelevant), and then there are just daft laws like this where the 'crime' affects no-one at all.

Thanks a lot to those who encouraged me to fight this ticket or gave me advice! The golden rule being that you should always fight a parking ticket.
Got my letter back from Westminster Council yesterday which saved me handing over £65 of unearned wealth to those shit bags on the council.
Here's the letter for anyone who is also encouraged to fight an unjust parking ticket.
I'll be monitoring that bay to see if they ever get round to painting the boundary or just use it to catch people out.
