Long story short, need to claim on the insurance for my car.

They've requested I send a bank statement showing the transaction of payment but I can't as I paid by cash. They've also requested I show the receipt of sale, I didn't get it from a main dealer though I got it from a general dealer (who I can't remember - it was well over a year ago) and don't think I've got any paperwork for it.

Am I in shit creek?

surely the people best placed to answer this are your insurance company, have you tried discussing the matter with them.

You can't get copies of the bank statements showing the cash withdrawal?

Surely they just pay you market value, why do they need to know what you paid for it?

Why are they even asking? It's worth its current market value.

I had most the cash from a previous car sale, might have withdrawn down to make up the difference but not all.

I can't remember where I bought it no, it was about 200 miles away in Yorkshire somewhere, I can describe the forecourt but can't remember where it is at all.

I asking to see if anyone's been in this situation and will it alter things if I can't supply the needed info.

If you're lucky there'll be a sticker in the back window that the vendor will have placed there in an effort to entice future customers. Presumably future customers who have followed you thinking, "That's a nice car. I wonder where he bought it..."

Burnt and recovered to some compound miles away. Plus I don't think there was a sticker. I'd have taken it off anyway, I'm not sponsoring the cunts.

Any idications as to why the Ins Co want proof of purchase cost? Are you claiming lots of mods that were on there or something?

If not, market value as been stated.

I assumed it was a "wrapped it round a lamppost" claim. Theft didn't even enter my head, tbh.
