Cost you £25 to find out, and poss £100 for a new barrel, maybe a new imoby if it is equipped with one which goes with the key.

Me I would be a OK with it, I would be less ok if it was a chavvy git offering to sell it no V5 no keys but its legit init bruv.

The DVLA would write to the registered keeper if you applied for a V5 and, considering he's not the one selling it to you, I'd imagine it could be a lot more hassle than it's worth.

I'd get her to apply for the V5 herself then buy it off her. Sure it will add a keeper to the numbers but it'd save you any grief.

Form V62 and a cheque for £25 and jobs a good one.

The DVLA will write to the registered keeper and if they receive no reply will issue a V5 in your name.

Is it possible that it's registered to the address where it's being stored? Then it's not an issue at all as long as she ignores the letter from the DVLA Smile

That's exactly what I was thinking. And since the person selling could supply a receipt to you with the very same address on it you'd have a convincing argument that they were actually the owner now. Won't even be on the new database I bet, meaning that DVLA might not even have a record for it.

Lady should not get involved in any way. I doubt it'll have been SORNed, so giving the DVLA a hint where it's been "kept" will bring her all sorts of hassle.

You do the V62, if a letter comes through to her address with bloke's name on it, I'd go with returning it unopened with "not known at this address", or just shred it and feed it to the dog. Then eat the dog.

As said it'll cost you £25 to find out. Seems unlikely that he would register it at wherever he's moved to or about in 8 years but not take the bike.

If you get a v5 through, although some pedants will argue that it's the keeper not owner by law, you won't have a problem with the police, which lets face it, is the only thing you care about aside from how much money it will cost.

On a different note, I found with something like this, set yourself a limit on how much you will spend. It's easy to buy all fluids and filters, a battery and spark plugs, chain and sprockets, pads as well as an ignition barrel and end up with a 500 quid bill. That cheap/free bike is now 500 quid before you've run it for a while and found any niggles.

I'd do as Rogerborg said. Apply for it yourself so there's no mess with all the SORN stuff, and as the letters will go to that address then there should't be an issue.

Obviously it'll need servicing but if it's cheap that wouldn't worry me too much. You'll want to check how much the insurance will be for a new rider. For me it was prohibitive, which is why I've only just bought my 6R after 2 years.

Yeah buy it, by doing a runner she can basically say he was being charged for storage the time she's had it and it's legally hers.

Buy the bike cheap though. Then just spend a few bob to pay the 'bribe' for the DVLA for the logbook.
