If you're involved in an accident then no the other driver will not send out someone to inspect it, the police or your insurance company could if they really really wanted to. Have never heard of it happening as the police and insurance are generally not very up on restrictors.
The sounds won't different enough to be able to say "that ped is de-restricted", it'll be slightly louder but not enough to be obvious.
If it was a crash at more than 30mph then it could well get them thinking as it doesn't take a genius to work out that to be doing more than 30mph it can't be restricted.
You'd get into trouble for riding a bike which you're not licensed to ride, as you're licensed to ride a bike not bigger than 50cc and not faster than 50kmph, this would be a police matter, probably a short ban and a fine.
There's also the slightly more serious matter of no insurance, which again would be dealt with by the police but if you were invovled in an accident and the insurance found out then they would no longer provide you with third party cover. The claim would then be covered by the Motor Insurance Bureau who come after you to recover their losses.
So if bad came to worse then you'd be fucked by the police and then fucked by the MIB for lots and lots of money.
Chances of it happening are pretty much zero as police aren't very clued up on restrictions or don't care, but if you crash into a brand new BMW at 50mph causing someone personal injuries than you're insurance company would probably notice, can't say I've ever heard of it happening.
So basically, you could get totally fucked and then fucked a bit more, but the chances of it happening are pretty much zero. |

Do it. Seriously, restricters are a danger to the roads. You are more likely to crash because you can't accelerate quick enough from a T junction or you can't overtake the tractor going 23MPH.
I thought my ped was restricted...it isn't. It goes 56 (Indicated) down a hill.
I have a stone in my exhaust right now and it is fucking it up, so I have a sports can that I can put on it, getting fitted on Monday, tried doing it myself, but couldn't quite get to the gasket area with my tool set.
Thankfully only another 5 months of ped riding. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Yeah I'd de-restrict the lil puppy mate
As said above its good to know that you've got the extra speed there in a shitty knickers situation. As long as you don't go being silly and overtake a copper doing 50 you should be fine. |

Thanks for the helpful replys fellas. Hopefully I can try and persuade my dad a little easier now :/
Well I showed him the replys and he is still whining about if I crash dont come crying to him for the money, or dont come crying back to him about when was the right time to de-restrict. This is annoying I'll see if I can eventually change his mind.
Curious, but how much roughly does it cost? Around £50 ?
Does anyone here live in Yorkshire, West Yorkshire to be precise, near Hemsworth?? |

The mechanic said he could de-restrict my bike so it could go about 60mph, but the other day I was talking to a lad at college and he said it would only go about 45mph which isn't a great deal if he is telling the truth lol. But in all honestly I believe what the mechanic said, but what speed do you guys think I could get out of my scooter after de-restriction ?
Thanks..Dan. |
Your Dad said the same as mine and tried to make you feel guilty with the classic "It's you money do what you like, just don't go running to me when things go pear shaped".
I reckon you could get about 50 - 55MPH out of it, for further increased speed you could get a performance exhaust. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Yeah performance exhaust is expensive for what it brings you, three-four mph at the max improvement in speed and you probably wont ever notice it.
The price tag for the decent ones you will notice, and the possible cock ups cheaper ones can cause could prove pricey.
Save the 40 quid and get a assesment lesson before your test or something (conn your parents into it being a good idea ) and save yourself money in retakes etc...
or even save money for a better bike or some nifty accesories when you upgrade. ____________________ Previous - Gilera DNA50 / XVS125 Dragstar/Honda CBR 600F/GSF 650 Bandit

Hi.
This afternoon my friend and I went for a ride to the local motorcycle dealer and booked ourselves in for de-restriction next Wednesday (So excited lol ). The guy said it would cost £45 and he said he could probably derestrict both our scooters in one hour, which is nice.
I also asked some questions about exhuasts and he basically said that they were a waste of time and there a pain in the arse. He told us that you probably wouldnt be able to notice the difference with the performance exhaust on, or it would take a while for you to actually notice the exhaust was having an effect on the speed, only a max of 5mph more. Which is not much really. So I've decided not to get the exhaust and save the money for something else.
My plans now are to keep the bike until I'm seventeen, sell it on, spend the money I get from the sale and my saved up money on a KTM 125 Enduro.
Off topic - But today me and my friend thought it would be funny to see what the scooters were like off road, oh boy it was so much fun on the slippy mud. The farmers track we went on was at least 3/4 to a 1 mile that we were going down, it was on a nice steady hill too. We were doing wheel spins, donuts, skids the lot. extremley fun... we both fell off twice lol, luckly nothing got damaged just a bit muddy. But it was one of the best days I've had in a long time. Sorry to babble on but I just can't get over how much fun it was. But I wont be doing it again in case something serious happens lol.
Has anyone else doing anything like this lol? |

I went up a private halfpipe with a girl on the back, incidentally we fell off, she came off worse than me cause I used her as a cushion.
Went round my mates field, was really fun!
That's about as fun as my life on a ped gets... ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Well the big day finally came. I got my scooter derestricted earlier this afternoon, it feels so good now to riding a such a faster speed and just realise how slow I was going before.
The mechanic said it would only take an hour , after an hour of waiting me and my friend decided to back to the garage and see if he was finished yet , he said 'no' but had nearly finished mine and hadn't even started on my friends after an hour of waiting. So ten minutes later he brings my scooter to the front and tells me to go for a ride and come back and tell the difference in speed.
So I put my helmet and glooves on , started it up and I as soon as I set of I noticed a big improvement from the acceleration. I was soon going along this huge quite road where I was loving every minute of it. I was doing 55mph on straight , 60mph going down hills and about 45mph going up them.
After a few mins of riding around this lane I went back to met my friend at the garage , and it turned out that the nuts and bolts were so rusty and they had rotted that much , that they were having great difficulty trying to take my mates exhasut off.
Another 45 mins has passed , by this time were getting pissed off as he said he could do both our scooters in one hour and it been one hour and 45 mins. A few mins later the mechanic brings my mates scooter round the front , we pay up. Both start up and ride along the huge lane. I was well impressed by the speed my scooter was doing, but my friend was disappointed and said his only said it was going 40-45mph when I was going 55mph.
So we ride next to each other and I shouted my speed I was going which was 48mph , he then shouted his and it said 39mph on his speedo. So we now both think that his speedo must be faulty and just have to see what happens.
Sorry to ramble on , but when your able to get full performance from your scooter then it's just an amazing experince. I was really enjoying going around doing 55mph. Oooh it has made me so excited lol.
WooHoo for derestiction , no more 35mph max , more like 60mph max now hehe. |
