I've seen loads of videos like this over the years from different companies. Not once have I seen anyone on here actually use one of the products like this.

I'd be interested to know if anyone actually has, and has had good results!

I have had a dhb jacket that had the same affect on water. It's great but does wear off after a few months.

Neverwet is supposed to be the first proper domestic use product of its kind to be available for a cheap price.

It doesn't last very long and will be no use in heavy rain where water gets to sit on stuff for time.

Notice how all the videos show little bits of liquid bouncing off and not a "bowl" made of fabric holding water.

There are other videos of NeverWet that shows gloves being dipped into bowls of water and mud. I would imagine it'd need reapplied constantly though

Well, I just went and checked out their website and saw the video on this page:

https://www.neverwet.com/anti-wetting.php

Apparently that item was submerged for over a year.

Yes but the pressure on the surface of the coated object is still not that much. If I had a product like this, I would advertise it doing to harshest thing possible to it so I don't think it would be much good at waterproofing, more water resistance.

Good for school clothes and stuff like that.

Wasn't there someone on here that was doing work on waterproof nanocoating?

Rather than the commercial silicone based stuff.

Yes, the usual teaser "will be available real soon" stuff.

That reminds me, I have a bucket of brickwork silicone sealer that I'm just going to dunk some old gear in and see what happens. Very Happy

I work with someone who wears the stuff. Water never touches him ever.

This does the rounds here every 6 months, I posted it last time Laughing

Me thinks it is a hook, we're making it and it will be around soon, but in the meantime....

I remember seeing a video about nano technology being used as a coating for mobile phones that was completely clear but repelled water. The video said that anything could be done, but it didn't last forever. Maybe that should be used for our visors.

It's silicone, it sits on the surface, it isn't nanotechnology, it is based on nanotechnology but it isn't true nanotechnology as it only just registers on the nanoscale, which is a billionth of a metre.

To put it bluntly Silicone in particle size is a cricket ball, true nano particle size is a small marble, the kind you could get in a christmas cracker.

This is why it doesn't bond with the surface it just sits on and gets washed off, a true nanoparticle is able to bond into the surface.

Hydrophobic isn't really anything new, it's always been around just some companies have latched onto the nano buzz word and if it repels water it's "nano" and it isn't, the best one was the two part acrylic paint that came out a few months back "IT's nanotech look at it blah blah blah".....no it's paint and it has turned everything white

Now for actual nanotechnology my products are just about to hit the market, extensive testing from a few big companies around the UK and 90% of the packaging is ready to go, the difference between mine and everyone else's, is mine is true nano, silicone stuff like Ross technologies never wet is 100 nanometres.

A human hair is 60,000 nanometres

My product, well the cheaper end of them is 50k nanometres smaller than a human hair, so 300,000,0000, I have stuff that goes smaller than that but it is super expensive.

My product and it lasts more than 10 minutes on a visor, though I am testing some newer stuff for visors, next few months it should hopefully be on shelves

Yes, I just tend not to say that much about it as it isn't ready for launch just yet, and I need to speak with mods about doing stuff with BCF

That doesn't sound too promising Shocked

The actual good stuff is probably contained within a propellant which would be flammable.

Hopefully not the actual stuff!
