On, for example, a bandit 600s.

Depends on what power band is drawing the fuel out.

When all the main tanks have been blown up by the enemy, they send the reserve tanks forward to be blown up too.

Having dispensed enough mockery.

There is no reserve tank. There is a reserve position on the fuel tap on some bikes.

The "on" position draws fuel through a metal pipe that sticks up bout 2 " into the fuel tank. The "res" position draws fuel right from the bottom of the tank, along with any bits of grit, water and other shit that's lurking about in the bottom of the tank.

When you hit reserve, there is still about 2" of fuel left in the tank.

If you need a visual aid to understand it, get a paper cup,

fill with water
jab a hole 1/8th of the way up,
wait until water has drained out
look inside
oooh, water
jab hole in bottom of cup
yay, reserve.

Just don't use reserve. And if you have to, remember....always remember to turn the tap back after you filled it.

I've done similar... I once ran out of fuel nearish to a petrol station. Just about managed to nurse the bike somewhere decent as I felt it dying on me (sooner than expected).

Anyway... forgot I had reserve until a week or two ago as I was tearing the bike apart and saw it on the tap. I could have just used my reserve to get me there rather than pushing. Embarassed

YOur chain should have 20-25mm of slack mid-way between the front and rear sprockets.
The above has nothing to do with tanks what-so-ever.

Top tube is the "main tank" and when the fuel level goes below that, you need to switch to reserve which allows fuel from the lower tube down to the carbs/fuel pump.

Because the carbs are empty and won't be filled until the engine starts. You should have selected prime first, started it up, then switched to reserve.

Oh right.... there isnt a prime option on my fuel tap, its just on/off/reserve.
ive switched it to reserve once before when it ran out and it worked fine and the bike fired up.

Prime is only for vacuum taps. If it has no vacuum tap you don't need to prime.
