I'm looking for a back protector to fit inside my leather jacket and was hoping those that have one could give me some opinions.
I'm not saying money is no object as if its a choice between walking and not, I'll pay for it, but still, the same protection can be had for less than great!

I've been looking on fleabay and have seen quite a few Knox ones for around £20 for example this which also includes elbow and shoulder

Thanks

TBH I would want to try it on and make sure it would fit under my leathers.

I bought one from ebay about 9 years ago and it was fecking massive. Ninja turtle massive.

I bought one at the NEC 8 years back cost me about £15 and fits perfect. I don't go anywhere without it.

And yes I have crashed and landed on my back.

There was a reassuring flap as it hit the ground rather than my back first.

That kit came in a textile jacket set I bought. My trousers also have the same version of knee and hip pads too.

The back protector is about the size of a small laptop, maybe an inch thick. Haven't had to rely on it but it is unobtrusive. My textile jacket has a pocket shaped especially for it, it didn't fit in my leather jacket.

Knee, shoulder and elbow pads are ok, don't dig in but again my trousers/jacket have pockets for them. They are flexible but hard plastic with a dense foam liner about 10mm thick.Hip pad is a block of dense foam.

I have had to rely on the hip, knee and elbow pads, they did the trick.

If they fit your clothing they seem decent enough.

If you can get one that you wear and belts around you, alot safer in a crash, one of the most popular is the forcefield l2 that's what vim going for j&s sell them but if yournear gGlasgow there's a store called firecrest that do them cheaper.

I'd try one of these, use them in both my leathers and my jacket.

Its ebay but the seller is a very well known bike gear seller in the UK and RST are excellent quality gear, can buy them on other sites if you don't trust ebay stuff particularly.

https://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/140980761427?var=lv&var=sbar&_lwgsi=y&cbt=y&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=66

They're very good, CE-2 approved if i remember rightly, maybe even CE-1 but doubtful considering price.

RST are a very reliable brand though provide a lot of gear used in TT and previously in BSB.

Its quite a good rounded size also, i found many other 'slip-in' back protectors don't fit in a lot of jacket pockets - i think because the manufacturers prefer you buy their specific equally odd-shaped ones if you wish to upgrade from the foam sh-t Rolling Eyes

I wear a standalone back protector, the forcefield L2, brilliant fit and good price too.

Thanks, do you have any more info on these, they seem very cheap for a CE-2 level!

I have a forcefield Lvl2 in my Black textile jacket & a RST contour in my RST leathers.
Both fit the jackets perfectly, don't add much visual bulk and feel similar to an empty backpack. Thumbs Up
If you've got a pocket in your jacket, besides the small cost, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't get one fitted.

Just ensure the size and shape are correct if your buying a different brand protector for a branded jacket (EG forcefield in a RST jacket)

If i'm remembering right theyre the upper CE class but im 100% theyre ce approved to the lower standard which in 99% of cases is going to be plenty for road riding. If youre thinking of track racing with it id consider a full piece upper level one but even then its questionable if its worth it as id much rather in that situation spend the extra cash on a protection vest incorperating the back protector with chest and hip armour (actually where a lot of back injuries also occur from side impact).

Something like https://www.motostorm.it/en/details.asp?articolo=1779&ref=Google¤cy=GBP&gclid=CNuCrtr7grgCFeXItAodMhAAdQ

As said though the RST ones are legit whether from ebay link i sent or other direct online/town retail shops and can vouch quality having crashed with mine once in quite a nasty incident Thumbs Down
