Old skool Jap options

I’m planning on riding a lot more now that I have some parking space at my new home. I don’t want to be riding the TLR through all seasons though. I am interested in buying a secondary bike, something old skool Jap preferably. Something I don’t have to look at much in terms of maintenance, something that doesn’t rot but something very capable. I guess anything over 400cc…twin or inline I’m not fussed. I really like the style of bikes from Mad Max, doesn’t have to be rat but then I’m not looking for someone’s pride and joy because I’m not really going to look after it aesthetically.
Budget in the region of £800 to £1200. Thumbs Up

There's a truly god awful ratted '90s cb500 I see around here from time to time - equal parts rust, matt black paint, cargo netting and really badly Tip-Ex'd on Hawkwind lyrics. Laughing

Have a look on egay. All of my bikes (apart from my first 2) have been sub £1000. You can pick up some proper cheapies, but expect to do a little work to get them mechanically acceptable. The choice is yours at £800, you shoud find a good condition 90's bike no problem.

Id be having a tidy CBX750 for that money!

But yeah, aircooled 80's IL4 is cool! You ideally want something that's tough and then make up a new exhaust manifold out of old scaffolding tube, and bolt on a big turbo, for full mad max style!

What I quite fancy myself is a Yamaha XS1100 Midnight special, for one tough bastard project bike!
