Bike stand for towing in trailer?

Hi everyone

Just joined, this is my first post Very Happy

I'm looking for some advice , has anyone used one of these for standing a bike in the back of a trailer for towing (with additional straps). I can load the bike by myself and keep it vertical while I strap it.

You don't need a stand for a trailer, just straps or is this a troll?

Not on side stand. one strap on LHS of bars one on RHS and anchor to the floor or low down on the side of the trailer. tighten straps securley.

Used to do this a lot.

Personally I don't like things strapped with the side stand down and touching - sure have them upright and stick the side stand down as a bit of extra 'protection', but I feel having it tightened on to it opens up the possibility of going over a big bump, the stand flicking up and it suddenly being pulled down on to that side

For a trailer - most you might want to consider I'd say is couple of small bits of wood screwed to the floor to stop the wheels sliding sideways.

I suppose it depends how you do it.

I always do the front forks and squish them down and 1 over the seat.

Thanks for all the replies, the question really was have you used one of these, I've been towing my bike for years.

I could never strap the bike down with a side stand, my trailer has no floor, its a frame trailer. My bike has no centre stand. I would only strap it down vertically in the trailer bike channel for even weight distribution 200KG+ bike, through the forks, and a strap the rear too.

These bike stands allow you to wheel the bike in and let go, then it isn't a two person job to strap the bike down vertically whilst another on holds the bike, just wanted to know if anyone had used one.

Why not just get a hoop of metal welded on? Will do the same job for a lot less money.

I'm sure I have used one of these at some point and didn't find it amazing... the bike needs a bit of an extra push to GT it into the device, as the mechanism is a bit raised.

Doesn't your trailer channel have a loop at the end to sit the front wheel into then?

So... how do you hold the bike up whilst you strap it down/unstrap it down?

These things are 'universally' accepted as an aid to trailering.

I use a Bikelug which doesn't permit side/centre stand use so the vee thang is required for one man loading.


OP The thing you are looking at is VG.

Also I seen a good bike fucked up propah in a trailer as the strap was sawed through 'in transit' and when the vehicle stopped to fuel up the bike, which was resting on it's side stand, rolled forward and fell onto its side destroying £600 of fairing. The Vee thing will help prevent this.

Also lag your straps where they touch the bike as they can chaff through un-noticed as you drive. First bump/bend and 'see you bike or back window'.

Never really needed anything like this....

Bike is always upright strapped down.. easiest way to do it imo is put bike on side stand loosely attach rachet straps, lift bike off side stand to upright position with one hand and crank straps with other.

Never strap down on stand, had one time only with a cheap moped where i went over a pot hole and the stand snapped.

You can't lean a bike on a side stand on a rail type trailer.
