"What was that?"
"Did you see that?"
"Was that the primary buffer panel?"
"It did seem to resemble..."
"Did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorram ship for no apparent reason?"

I'm absolutely certain there was a side panel on that fairing when I left the MOT station.

https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/CIMG0998_zps65342636.jpg

All the fittings are still in place. It's quite literally ripped itself apart and flown off the bike.

Hey ho. That's what I get for passing an MOT with no advisories.

Thought about a change of colour for the old girl?
Some nice race-rep fairings. Thinking

Maybe not.

I had something similar happen on my old yzf 125 years ago. One of the front screws was slightly loose - wind started buffering it and did so with such force it literally tore the panel off breaking away from the fixing points. Luckily felt it hit my leg and went and picked it up but it required plastic welding on each of the screw-points where it had all shattered Thumbs Down

They don't make them for this bike 1991 VFR 750.

Plastics are like rocking horse poo.

Is that missing panel really as big as it looks there? How did you not notice it go? It looks like it'd take a leg off.

I hope it's just an optical illusion.

It's as big as it looks, about 30cm x 50cm. I was going very fast and watching the road ahead. Never noticed a thing.

On the plus side. It looks like there are a couple of places now doing aftermarket plastics which I didn't find last time I looked.

There is Thurn Motorsport in Germany who do a three piece replacement fairing for about £650

There is Poly 26 in France who do a similar thing for around £350

And there is slick fairings in Nottingham who do cloned panels to fit on the original plastics but their website is currently down.

Anyone had any experience of these?

I don't know if it's of any use but Slick Fairings also have an eBay shop and have this listed:

Looks like your idle speed adjustment will be easier though.

If it gets dressed up, will you take it out somewhere fun?

Happend to me on my FZR. Felt something hit my knee. Got home (was dark) and notice my entire left fairing had vanished, but left the bolts and rubber mounts!

I've seen loads of panels on ebay over the last couple of weeks as I've been looking for the part that is supposed to be round the rear brake pedal, but found everything but that one

Bummer stinkwheel. Still it could be worse, it could have vanished to reveal annoying things like leaky hoses or rust, it looks pretty clean in there (not clean clean obviously).

Lost panel = Its the world telling you to streetfighter Laughing Shifty

I definately landed.

Interesting how the vinyl wrap has sheared in exactly the same plane as the plastic. You still wouldn't know the broken remnants of that panel were wrapped, not painted.

Same with the decals of my yzf, think it was the force and speed it tore off at, i was convinced i'd killed a bird for about 20 minutes until i hit the next set of lights and stopped to lean the bike to have a good look at my knee - when i saw my fairing was gone Laughing

***WARNING Stupid Suggestion WARNING***

Is it too far to ride back the MoTer's with a casual glance for the fly-away panel?

Well meaning folk aye do their best to aid society by placing thrown shite plastic wheel caps on the side of the road. As they believe the motorist will comeback for it. Shocked

Folk do that thing with gloves too. Whenever you see a lonely glove impaled on a fence it is the same community spirited action in force.

Came across this USA site - airtech-streamlining.com for the VFR 750 1990-'93 if it's any use? Confused

I see they come up as having an eBay presence. Have you looked/contacted them via that?

About 1/3 of it is still attached to the bike (the bit round the edges with all the fastners on) so probably not worth the effort I suspect.

The glove thing is actually cultural. It has historically been considered bad luck to pick up a glove if you drop it on the floor so someone else picks it up for you.
